Liberal Talk Loses Two
March 01, 2006
By Ken Tucker

There are two fewer liberal talk outlets following the sales of those stations to new owners.

KXXT Phoenix, which has programmed the format since September 2004, has flipped to religious programming following the close of its sale from James Crystal Enterprises to Communicom Broadcasting. The station featured a mix of local programming along with Air America Radio hosts such as Al Franken and Randi Rhodes. Jones Radio Networks' Stephanie Miller and P1's Ed Schultz were also on the air there....

Meanwhile, on the heels of the announced sale of KKNS Missoula, Mont., from Mt. Sentinel Broadcasting to Simmons Media, the station has dropped progressive talk in favor of adult hits. The station carried shows from AAR as well as Ed Schultz.

6. Air America Cancelled in Phoenix and Missouri!
Air America's Phoenix affiliate drops talk format
Mike Sunnucks
The Business Journal

Air America's liberal brand of talk radio is off the radio airwaves in the Phoenix market.

KXXT 1010 AM was Air America's radio home in Phoenix, featuring left of center talkers such as Al Franken, Randi Rhodes and Ed Schultz, who routinely chastise the Bush administration and rival conservative talk show hosts such as Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly.

But KXXT's owners sold the station to a Christian broadcasting group last year and the station's format officially went from political talk to religious content on Wednesday.

Air America-Phoenix general manager Robert Christy has talked of trying to acquire another Phoenix AM radio station but said in a Feb. 28 letter to employees that effort was facing some hurdles.

I hope this isn't the beginning of the end for AAR....:(
