How many other DU folks have thought, since the presidential
election selection of 2000,

"Stop the world, I want to get off."

I have. Lots.

1. Yeah, this shit is so surreal . . .
. . . and people keep going on making babies, driving SUV's, watching American Idol like it actually has meaning, and believing what hate-radio tells them.

"9 out of 10 experts agree--everything's fine!"

2. In 2000 I just wanted out of the country.
Never in a million years would I have thought he'd not only screw up the good IL' US of A, he'd wreak havoc on the entire planet.

So, almost 6 years later, I guess I'm there.

3. Oh hell yes!
At first I hoped we could right the wrongs but alas, no such fuckin' luck.
Then I considered bolting for another, safer country only to conclude no such place exists.
Now I'm just resigned to the fact that we're all living in BizarroWorld.

4. You can dam sure count me in.
I couldn't listen or see him for months without getting sick to my stomach, now I just mostly laugh, a little nervous laugh like he does I might add. I'm really worried about this country and the path that we are on. If I single and wasn't 58 and barely able to walk a block I'da done been gone. hell anywhere is looking better than what we have to look forward to here now.

7. Thanks for reminding me of the Garcia quote . . .
. . . there's a lot about him and that band that I miss so much.

11. I'm not surprised by any of this...
I "knew" in April of 1999 that GWB was gonna be the next "President."
I "knew" that he was gonna totally fuck everything up, on purpose.
When I watched the Twin Towers fall from my Brooklyn apartment, I knew that he and his people were complicit.
And... I "know" that it's going to get so much worse before it gets better.

How do I know all this?
Because I watched his father and friends. I read history. I pay attention. It's not that difficult. It's part of the cycle.

So, I haven't experienced the whole "stop the world I wanna get off" thing, because I was thoroughly psychologically prepared for this shit long before it happened. Sad, really, that we have to live our lives this way. But predictable, if you ask me...
