Senator fill-in-the-blank votes the right way and we swoon with delight. He/she votes the wrong way and we curse deaf heaven. And on and on it goes. Our hero one day becomes the dastardly villain who's selling out America the next. A brave paragon of virture becomes, literally overnight, a spineless traitor. Think we might be indulging in some black and white thinking here?

Maybe, just maybe, this is a flawed way of judging a politician's record.
