Every Republican in congress will vote to impeach Bush
Some of you people that think the Repubs wont impeach are clueless. They will all vote to impeach.

Every republican wants to keep their job. Bush is a political dead fish. He is done. He had his two terms, there is nothing invested in protecting him anymore. The repubs don't care about Bush anymore, all they now care about is their own jobs. All they care about is getting reelected. They cannot have this impeachment issue hung over their heads during their own campaigns, they just can't. Its a nuclear bomb. They need to be on the correct side of this issue in 2006 or they are dead meat. They need to show their constituents that they are not corrupt like Abramoff, DeLay, "The Duke" and Bush. They need to refute and "debunk" the title of "Culture of Corruption" that the Dems are labeling EVERY Republican with. They need to say "Look, we're NOT like Bush, we're good people."

That is why every Republican (with a few dumbasses being the exception) will go for Impeachment. The only thing we need to do is make it clear to each one, privately, that going against us will spell doom in their local elections. We make it clear that any Repub that hampers the Impeachment process will get BURIED in 2006 by their Dem opponent, due to the extra funding the DNC and us will pour in against them from all over the country.

Make it personal. Make it about THAT persons re-election. That is how you do it.

1. Want to make a bet?
I'll give DU $100.00 if Bush is impeached.
I'll give $500.00 to DU if "every Republican in Congress votes for impeachment" if I lose the first bet ( which would be nice, but it ain't gonna' happen)

43. They supported Bush to get to the money. They now have the money.
They don't give two shits about their jobs when they have already set the policies in play that will guarantee that they and their children will be filthy rich for the rest of their lives. Thus, they don't have to vote for impeachment. If they lose their jobs, they will be out of the spotlight to enjoy the wealth and power they have accumulated under the PNAC-neocon-Bush cabal.

My money says they will never impeach Bush and very few if any of the Bush administration will go to jail eventhough they belong there!

Edited on Fri Dec-30-05 01:54 PM by FreedomAngel82
for why they got Clinton over Nixon (who wasn't impeached by the way, who resigned)? So only they're allowed to do revenge? Oh, I see. So I have to just sit quietly like a good southern girl and allow Bush to take away my freedoms. Fuck that.

But I doubt that most or all will. Many of them are so blinded by their greed that they wouldn't know the right thing if it hit them in between the eyes.

5. One wonders how many are concerned the WH tapped their phones too.
There is a long history of keeping files and blackmailing people into submission which dates back to the days of J. Edgar. Those nervous about the skeletons in their own closets are probably gonna be pretty sympathetic to bushco if it comes to a floor vote.

8. Of course. Some will back Bush if it means saving their own ass.
But on the other hand, if supporting an impeachment will mean saving their ass, they'll go for that instead. I don't think there is much, if any, true loyalty in the Republican Party (or in the Dem party either if you really want my opinion on the matter).

9. The GOP does a god job of keeping members in line anyway.
They have traditionally done a very good job of keeping the Repubs marching in orderly fashion--voting the party line for the most part. There are exceptions, but really, they are not terribly common.

I have wondered at more than a few of the votes cast in the last 6 years because they seemed SO far away from the stated GOP doctrines of smaller federal government and reduced spending.

We all know (or should realize, at least) that not EVERYONE that is GOP and currently in office is happy with the neo-con agenda--yet you see those votes just magically appear to support it.

I have to admit, I have wondered about what pressures were being applied privately to get some of this stuff done. Personal blackmail seems more than possible, IMO.

I do think that if the Chimp's popularity numbers get too low that you will see some defections, however, I really don't expect to see any rush to investigate much of anything--unless the Dems take over the House in the upcoming elections.

THEN all bets are off.

Edited on Fri Dec-30-05 01:55 PM by FreedomAngel82
Bill Frist won't be there when it happens. If it happens before the 2006 midterms he will be. I'd love to put him under that pressure. But than again he isn't running again (I believe he's actually keeping a campaign promise!) so that wouldn't mean much. He could vote either way and it wouldn't effect him.

6. And the fatal flaw of that idea is...
...most of the seats in the House and the Senate are safe seats. Many districts and states are SOLID RED, and are against impeachment. Only a few seats are actually contestable. Sorry, but that is reality.

7. I wish this were true...
but it is not. Repukes laugh at the notion of supporting impeachment, and will continue to support Dumbya, no matter what he does. And the masses will not band together to demand an end to this evil cartel. The masses are stupid.

Astonishingly, the chimp in chief's http://www.realclearpolitics.com/polls.html">approval ratings have actually improved to around 46% on average, despite the clear revealation that he has deliberately violated the law and the Constitution, and arrogantly asserts that he will continue to do so. This approval rating is up from recent lows in the upper 30s. People don't seem to notice that this and other repuke corruption scandals are swirling around as thick as pea soup.

We must win control of at least one house of Congress next year.

32. They will support him because they want to stay in power.
Repukes love being in control of all 3 branches of government, and want it to stay that way. An impeachment would probably wake a few people up concerning their culture of corruption and power mongering, and repukes certainly don't want that to happen. Further, these people put their ideology before all else, so they will support the Chimp in Chief no matter what he does, just pecause he's a fellow repuke.

I don't think you are any more ignorant than I am. I think individuals are much smarter than most people allow. But the masses are stupid, as I said. I don't think you can count on the masses rising up to throw this bum out right now. My hope is to win control of Congress next year. If we do, this cartel will be exposed to the light of day for the first time. They will not be able to survive that.

35. MMMMM okay, broadly agree

It's the character of average R politician we'e talking. I guess party loyalty is the thing holding it all together in your book. But loyalty to what kind of party? Will the populace vote for a party that's only loyal to itself? It wouldn't be hard to spin *that* meme out at *all*.

I wonder if a *compromise* can be reached... Could the Rs be persuaded to give up one branch for security in their individual positions? It's looking to me like they're in for some very nasty surprises at the local level if they don't start waking up and paying attention. Could be the death of their party. Not that that would affect the cartel, of course...

Democrats are nowhere near as corrupt as the Rs, that's a popular fallacy that should be stomped on. So long as the populace perceive that the 2 big parties are on equal footing in that regard they'll be turned off politics.

Perhaps the seduction of moderates will ease the transition from 3 to 2 branches, after all, if they don't let the left have a bite of the pie, the image of government as inherently corrupt will eventually destroy them just as they would wish the association with Clinton would destroy the left, which is just a completely ridiculous strategy, everybody was THERE when Clinton was in power and remembers exactly what he was really like.

As to the cartel, only a few pointers to their R supporters in the halls of power towards what they actually stand to gain from supporting them, i.e. nothing, should have caused considerable damage. Somehow it never seems to happen...

I'm beginning to think it's time to start addressing the problems of the populace in a more long-term way... Not sure how... I'm no longer convinced that arguing with them on discussion boards or howling in knee-jerk lock-step at the latest Phelps / Coulter freak show will advance anything but our own sense of outraged innocence...

Hm, sorry, I'm not really saying much, I know. I feel contemplative today... End of the year and all that.

10. Unless....
Bush has one single "voter directive" remaining - and that is the overhaul of the SCOTUS. The far right will support him as long as that carrot is dangling.

So... if the Senate Dems could somehow kill the Alito nomination Bush would remain rudderless and adrift, thereby left with no wingnut "purpose" in life. A useful idiot no longer with any useful purpose -- because:

1) The corporations have used him up
2) Tax reform is impossible
3) Social Security is off limits
4) Iraq is a millstone hanging from his neck.

Strategically, NOTHING in Iraq equals the importance of KILLING THE ALITO nomination!

Thanks, good people.

20. Hi. Interesting post. I wonder if the Christian Right will have a problem
with this:

The next day I received from the same member of my political section an envelope. He said you might not want to look at these; this is a case that’s come in. I did in the end take the photos out of the envelope. They were photos of a corpse of a gentleman called Avazov. The photos had been brought in by his mother. He was allegedly a member, he probably was, of the Hiz but Tahrir sect- a rather extreme Muslim sect, though not one that promotes violence. Membership of that sect is itself a crime and he had been put into prison where he had been tortured to sign a recantation of his faith this is something prisoners are very regularly tortured to sign. They have to sign a recantation of faith, an oath of loyalty to the president and then give the names of half a dozen or so of their associates. If you do all that you then have a fair chance of getting out of jail through a presidential amnesty. He had been tortured with a view to signing the recantation along with his colleague Mr Abisov. They had refused and had also refused to cease praying five times a day. As a consequence they had been plunged into a vat of boiling water and had died both of them as a result. I didn’t know that at the time, I just saw the photographs of this body in this appalling state; I couldn’t work out what could account for it.

18. Sorry, I can't see that any repug would vote for impeachment.
I think the fallout from having a repug president impeached would keep them from even thinking about getting rid of the Chimp. I'm trying to remember but didn't the repugs suffer some defeats after the 1974 resignation of Nixon because they were repugs? (Not just they supported Nixon but was a member of the party of Nixon. Somebody set me straight.)

The GOP was knocked for a loop after that Nixon brouhaha and they have been planning and scheming and skewing elections ever since so they will never have to suffer another embarrassment. They haven't changed their dirty tricks they are just more covert with false elections, the Guns, Gods and Gays agenda to stay in power. They won't take the chance - no matter how much Chucklenuts and Cheney deserve to be in prison some where - that they are the party of having a leader who is impeached. Covering their ass is what it is all about.

The answer, as always, comes in November 2006. You think the elections of 2004 was scammed? Wait until you see what happens in 2006 if we don't get the voting issues fixed. The repugs have worked too long and too hard to let a simple thing like a corrupt administration to stand in the way of tax cuts, corporate take over, world domination and trashing the Constitution.

This will be the time to see who the real republicans are I think. I'm listening to Malloy's interview yesterday from Miller and he's talking about how people like Bob Barr warned last year that Bush wasn't a real conservative and to vote against him (and he was pretty pissed about the illegal spying on Americans). So this, I think, will be a test too.

The religious right base is strongly for him. It would be political suicide for a Repub to vote against him as it would mean a primary challenge.

Bush has put the Repubs at their strongest control of Congress since the 1920s! Democrats stuck behind Clinton even though his presidency had resulted in historical losses for the party, why would Republicans abandon success?

But I'm guessing that anyone who thinks every repub would vote to impeach chimpy gets the prize. Based on the current record and the public yawning response, I'd say that a far better bet would be that zero repubs would vote for impeachment if they were forced to vote on articles tomorrow. Of course, they won't be forced to vote because until the Democrats control Congress we can't make them do jackshit. If you think that most repubs are going to turn into quivering bowls of jelly because a Democrat sidles up to them and says, if you don't support impeachment, we're going to fry your ass in November you haven't been paying much attention to (a) the polls that show that the electorate isn't screaming for chimpy's head (b) the fact that between incumbency and redistricting, most repub members of congress could still win reelection even if they died a month before election day.

control of our voting machines and let's not forget how many ministers have their congregations convinced that Rethuglicans are the party of morality. Those congregations listen more to their minister than the news and they still believe the news is a liberal controlled entity. Add to that the delay for DeLay issue and I have to believe they STILL think they will be in control for a long time. They obviously think he will beat these charges and be available to them for some big vote in the future.

I don't like to be a pessimist but I think there is still a long hard road to walk to get our government out of the hands of these criminals.

I still think they will actually have to be replaced in LARGE numbers in 06'in order for any impeachment process to begin.

If I could make a positive difference on issues like universal healthcare, election reform, and deficit reduction in the Republican Party..I would join in a heartbeat! In reality the RNC would only take our money and votes..while obeying the Bush administration.

Only a Democratic Congress will stand up to the crimes and failures of the executive branch, only then will some of these self-serving Republicans join us in impeaching and removing Bush and Cheney from office!

36. There are only two winning scenarios for Republicans...
...and you've described the last resort. Infinitely preferable for them is their party's escape from the taint of impeachment. If they can squelch such talk, they will. Only when they're sure the ship's sinking will they run for the lifeboats.

That's not so very different from what the Dems did.

37. Repugs also believed Dems would turn on Clinton
And they were dead wrong. To top it off, after anticipating sweeping gains, they lost House and Senate seats in the '98 mid-term elections. And Newt Gingrich, who'd miscalculated one time too many, was forced his own party to resign as Speaker. My guess is that most Repugs will hang tight with Bush and charactarize any impeachment effort as an "over-reaching abuse of authority". They have the 1998 model to go by, and despite their uneasiness over Bush's embarrasing miscues and his out-and-out lies, they'll bite the bullet, try and keep a safe distance from Bush/Cheney and hope that the electoral damage in 2006 and 2008 can be kept to a minimum.

Then Cheney, then when Congress is done impeaching and expunging the executive branch...they install the Speaker of the House! Another crooked as the day is long Repuklican! I hope they do it! I hope they make it the mother of all impeachments! Then stick Crook Hastert into the job of POTUS for 3 years and see how much he can steal too. With any luck this will be a repeat of the early 20th century and Repuklicans will get rode out of town on a rail. Every time you get entrenched Repuklicans in gummit it ends up in their being banned from leading. If it weren't for the idiot Dixiecrats the GOP would be a nothing party and a lot of them are dying or dead.
