Bush Advisor Says President Has Legal Power to Torture Children
01/08/06 "revcom.us" -- -- John Yoo publicly argued there is no law that could prevent the President from ordering the torture of a child of a suspect in custody – including by crushing that child’s testicles.

This came out in response to a question in a December 1st debate in Chicago with Notre Dame professor and international human rights scholar Doug Cassel.

Snip...

Cassel: If the President deems that he’s got to torture somebody, including by crushing the testicles of the person’s child, there is no law that can stop him?
Yoo: No treaty.
Cassel: Also no law by Congress. That is what you wrote in the August 2002 memo.
Yoo: I think it depends on why the President thinks he needs to do that.

This is an old issue...but a serious one....is there really NO law to prevent the President from torturing children..?

Does have any more info on this..?

2. CHILD ABUSE IS AGAINST THE LAW.
Hello?

Teachers can be fired for grabbing a child by the arm, but this criminal Administration thinks they can crush a childs testicles and destroy them for life?

The evil and cruelty this Administration is spreading is being done in our name. It must end NOW.

3. There is. It's called the Constitution, which Bush swore to uphold.
It states that treaties entered into by the U.S. are supreme law of the land. Geneva Convention would qualify.

Bush and Yoo and his administration have simply declared a doctrine, that, because of the "war on terror", none of this applies any longer. The Geneva Conventions, OR the Constitution.

You see, the Constitution was written in 1787. It's 2006 already! Get with the program! :sarcasm:

So, in one sense, you are right, there is NO LAW to prevent the President from doing anything, if he chooses to declare himself not subject to any law, and the people of the country will not remove him from office for doing so.

This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.
