2006 Strategy: Dems must be united, Repubs must be DIVIDED!!!!!!!
Edited on Thu Mar-02-06 07:13 PM by Ignacio Upton
It's heartening to see the public "wake up" to Bush's "BUllSHit." He is now below 40% in FOUR opinion polls. it is the first time since early November that most of his polls are below 40%. One of the reasons why he crossed below 40% in September, October, and November was because of the public's dissatisfaction with the way he handled Katrina, especially because a lot of Republicans were pissed off at him. In addition, in October his nomination of Harriet Miers pissed off a lot of his supporters. A lot of his lost numbers were from plummeting GOP in addition to lower Dems and Indys. Bush's numbers are going down again because he is losing support in EVERY CATEGORY, especially Repubs, because of the port deal. One thing we need to do in this election is to take jabs at Bush and the Republicans from all angles, in ways that will allow for us to peel off some of their supporters, or encourage some of the Repubs to not vote.

Connversely, we need to keep united during this time. We cannot afford ourselves a renewed GOP majority. This is a year in which we cannot tolarate cries of "Candidate Y is anti-choice" or "Candidate Q doesn't support gay marriage or civil unions." It doesn't mean shit what the individual candidate may think on one or two issues, unless they are Henry Cuellar and have a genuine history of "DINOism." Most of the candidates running who are somewhat conservative, such as Bob Casey Jr, are still loyal Dems. Even if you may not agree with them, they still will add a new "D" to our Congressional caucus, which will give you Majority Leader Reid, Speaker of the House Pelosi, a Chairman Conyers, and a Chairman Lehy. So to anyone advocating a third-party spoiler, don't even think about it (yes, that means you too, Kate Michelman from NARAL: http://www.mydd.com/story/2006/3/2/151831/2961)

1. Divide and conquer
classic strategy. It works too. The repubs learned this and now, as you say, the Dems must too.

3. Give us something to vote FOR, we'll unite
Give us "business as usual" and "we're not quite as scummy as they are" and you can forget it, the base will stay home again.

What the GOPs do or don't do isn't our business. They're their own problem.

Huh? Explain that. What the GOPers do, HAS effected us as taxpayers. Record deficits, giving away ports, funneling charity money, getting defense contractor money. IT SCREWS US OVER!!!!!!!!!!! The culture of corruption effects almost every sector of the population.

6. I would argue that DU is not representative of the political landscape

Even though I agree with a lot of what posters here stand for, the site is well to the left of many voters, unfortunately :( (and I mean that in the sense that it sucks that the "mainstream" is so conservative relative to DU.)

And I do agree that our Dems need to do a better job of getting us to vote FOR them, and not not just against Abramoff, K-Street, and Dubai Ports World.

5. Reid and Pelosi are underachievers
Reid had the votes for an ALieto filibuster.

Nancy told the SF supervisors to pipe down about impeachment.

pfft
