3. I got the same message instead of the video
Edited on Thu Mar-02-06 07:18 PM by htuttle
The person who posted it must have marked it 'not for viewing inside the US'.

You're across the border in the Free World.

4. Just a small video of an IED being remotely detonated
But very strange. The captioning sounds like propaganda:
"We found this one before they could use it against us."

...but can't watch the video since I get that message instead.

Wonder why they set it to disallow US viewers?

citizens being censored - then there is no point.

Notice the Canadian could see the video - it doesn't sound like it's that big of a deal - an IED being detonated. It's more the principle of the thing.

13. LMAO!!!! LOL LOL No One's Censoring You! LOL LOL

What part of "the provider of this video has not authorized" do you not UNDERSTAND???

When you are a member of google video and upload a video, you have different advanced options you can set, one of which being which regions you don't want to be able to view the video. So some shlub somewhere in egypt that may have uploaded the video didn't want you to see it. Go send him an email to complain LOL

15. I think it was taken and posted by a US soldier, not 'some shlub in Egypt'
Did you read the caption on the stills from it on the side?

Detonation of Improvised Explosive Device used against Coalition forces. We found this one before they could use it against us.

Does that sound like a 'shlub from Egypt', or a US soldier?

16. Does It Matter? Send An Email To The Soldier Then
There are a million of those videos, some could be about friggin bambi, that you wouldn't be able to play here merely cause the person who uploaded chose the regions he uploaded it for.

It ain't google, it ain't the government, it's just some guy or gal somewhere uploading their video. No censorship whatsoever.

36. LOL I Just Find It Silly How Quick People Are To Jump To Conspiracy
sometimes without due diligence. Shit, even your opening post says quite clearly that it was the user who blocked access, not the government or google. I'd say I have every right to find it funny that some, including you, were so quick to say their rights are being suppressed. It was just plain silly. If you want to talk about being helpful, maybe you could've tried being helpful yourself by editing to explain in your OP that you were wrong in your assumption and that there is in fact no censorship going on. It would not have only been helpful, but also responsible. :hi:

25. The idiot asks personal questions about the guy's religion, exhorts him
to "say something to my wife" (good gravy, what a no-no!!!! Why didn't he just say 'Ya wanna buy my sister???')...engages in touchy political discourse, makes snarky comments about Al Jazeerah, and expects this guy to commit his comments to video....he literally BREAKS EVERY RULE of polite conversation that a village idiot who has spent any time at all amongst Arabs instinctively KNOWS. And then, the asshole puts the video ON THE WEB!!! After asking him how many times he switches cars and changes his route to work so he doesn't get KILLED!!!

It really made my skin crawl. Who is doing country indoc for these folks??? Bozo the friken Clown????

Not a good commentary on Americans. He apparently thinks he is being objective. What an asshole.

MAYBE I WILL SHARE SOMETHING THAT WILL COMPLICATE YOUR OPINION ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, AS MINE WAS WHILE THERE. THIS IS NEITHER FOR NOR AGAINST THE IRAQ WAR."

12. "This video is not playable in your country."
http://www.saschameinrath.com/

In your country? My country is the United States of America! This is a standard Cox Communications cable connection located in Virginia, USA. Checks with several friends indicate that this "not available" message is showing up in the United States, but friends in Canada and South America are able to view the video. Military operations are certainly a point of controversy right now, but I would expect Google to present all available information within our democratic borders. Is Google censoring information in the United States?

Update: There are several of these censored videos.

and allow it to be seen somewhere you think it might greatly upset the government, or worse violate the laws of the counrty? I think it is a great feature, it sure beats someone one day being handed over to Saudi Arabia for violating some law there with an uploaded video.

19. You can view it via a proxy server if you're in the US
Here's a list of proxy servers:

http://www.publicproxyservers.com/page1.html

Don't buy the software on that page. You can configure IE or Firefox to use one of those proxies by yourself and view the video. Use one of the proxies that are outside the US.

It's just 17 seconds of that device exploding. There's hardly any dialogue.

23. I guess I should explain how to use a proxy server (since I brought it up)
Edited on Thu Mar-02-06 07:52 PM by TroubleMan
First go here

http://www.publicproxyservers.com/page1.html

and either write down one of the proxy server and the port associated with it, or save it somewhere.

For Firefox:

click on tools
click on options
go to the general tab and click on connection settings
check the circle that says Manual Proxy Configuration and in the boxes to the right put in the ip address of the proxy server you chose and the port number

That's it for firefox.

For IE:

click on tools
click on internet options
go to the connections tab and click on Lan Settings
check the box that says use a proxy server for your lan and put in the proxy server ip address and port

That's it for IE.

(also on both make sure you hit okay or accept - not cancel)

Using a proxy is much slower, so be warned, but it will make you look like your browsing from wherever the proxy server is. However, now you can view all those videos not allowed in the US.

I guess the people posting the video can exclude countries of people when they post. (I think it's weird - but there you go).

There is a runaround (see post 23) for those who are into such things.
