Image of Bush in that little room in Katrina video decidedly creepy.
It may just be the camera angle but the image of President Bush seemingly sinking into his chair in this narrow, low ceilinged room with rather spotty lighting is disturbing.

Here he is the most powerful man in the world, alone except for one aid and a jeans and t-shirt clad photographer in a room so narrow that it looks like if the guy sitting with him tipped his head back he'd knock it against the wall. The deep perspective of the shot frames Bush in the middle but he's moving himself out of the center, almost cringing. The room is absolutely symetrical except for teh overly large presidential seal behind the photographer.

Bush seems to be shrinking into his seat with a disordered stack of papers in front of him. The Presidential Seal behind him is too big for the space just like the job is too big for the man.

Has he just realized that the shit is about to hit the fan and he has absolutely no idea of what to do about it except put on a brave face and hope that his spin machine will triumph over reality as it has in the past?

Is he bored to tears and can't wait to get back to riding his bike far from the protesters at the gates of the ranch?

Does he actually believe what he is saying?

I wasn't able to find a free link to the still picture but here's a link to the video.

1. I think that's at his Crawford Ranch
Proof that Laura Bush has bad taste - in men, interior decoration, in her clothing, morals, values, etc.

Bad - bad - bad. :puke:

2. It has the shadow gov't feel to it.
Deals cut in dark rooms. Dubby can't wait to go eat cake with McCain and fiddle in Caleeforneeyah. He probably is not real fond of the idea of letting the brown people die, but really it is all about vacation to him.

3. He's not in charge, he's just a spokesmodel they trot out. Needs to be
kept under tight wraps when he's not needed, so he doesn't mess anything up.....

4. "For the sake of your sanity, pray it isn't true," the advertisements
for THE LEGEND OF HELL HOUSE advised.

Bush in that picture reminds me of the character Emeric Belasco who embalmed himself in a hidden chamber in Hell House so he could remain in control.

7. Propeganda footage?
This is the Bush administration stripped of the image making apparatus but dress it up a bit and you have the raw material for a documentary.

My guess is that they intended for all of this raw footage to be made into some sort of propeganda piece--they are so arrogant that they never even considered the possibility that it could go so terribly wrong.

Here's the sequence, Brownie & the guy from the Nat'l Weather service quite rightly panicing about the storm.

Bush saying that everything's under control, we have everything in place deal with this storm.

This now sounds ridiculous but imagine if the storm hadn't broken the levees and the government response had been even reasonably confident, Bush would have sounded like a god damn hero and we would have heard that sound bit until we were sick of it.

9. The White House release was taken by the photographer in the corner
It's a fairly well composed shot designed to show that the President is in charge--although what is he doing--cleaning his fingernails?

10. it's definitely creepy
they clearly hauled him in off his bike ride and stuck a suit on him for the photo-op. remember he had been doing basically nothing but riding his bike with Lance Armstrong and hiding from Cindy for weeks. He is tan and fit and out to lunch. He has been reading Elmore Leonard (not making that up - he's quoted in an article mentioning it) and loafing. It's his FIFTH WEEK OF VACATION.

15. Elmore Leonard?
The shrub? That's peculiar. Given that Leonard was from NOLA.

13. What strikes me is how empty the room is - wouldn't a Pres. actually
in charge be surrounded by bustling aides and ringing phones? The whole thing has a "made-up" quality.
