The crap I get in my work e-mail. Warning! CRAP ALERT
I have a colleague that keeps sending this crap out in mass e-mails to the entire work-place, even though I've complained as well as a few others. I snoped this one:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/allah.asp

SO sick of dumbasses fanning the flames of anti-muslim sentiment based on LIES and DISTORTIONS.

Subject: Fw: allah or Jesus? A must read

Subject: Which God?

This is a must read -- it's short but very informative...

The Muslim religion is the fastest growing religion per capita in the
United States, especially in the minority races!!!

allah or Jesus? By Rick Mathes

Last month I attended my annual training session that's required for
Maintaining my state prison security clearance. During the training
Session there was a presentation by three speakers representing the
Roman Catholic, Protestant and Muslim faiths, who explained each of
Their beliefs.

I was particularly interested in what the Islamic Imam had to say. The
Imam gave a great presentation of the basics of Islam, complete with a
Video.

After the presentations, time was provided for questions and answers.

When it was my turn, I directed my question to the Imam and asked:
"Please, correct me if I'm wrong but I understand that most Imams and
Clerics of Islam have declared a holy jihad against the
Infidels of the world and, that by killing an infidel, (which is a
Command to all Muslims) they are assured of a place in heaven. If that's
The case, can you give me the definition of an infidel?"

There was no disagreement with my statements and, without hesitation, he
Replied, "Non-believers!"

I responded, "So, let me make sure I have this straight. All followers
Of allah have been commanded to kill everyone who is not of your faith
So they can have a place in Heaven. Is that correct?"

The ______expression on his face changed from one of authority and
Command to that of "a little boy who had just been caught with his hand
In the cookie jar." He sheepishly replied, "Yes"

I then stated, "Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine Pope
John Paul commanding all Catholics to kill those of your faith or Dr.
Stanley ordering all Protestants to do the same in order to guarantee
Them a place in Heaven!"

The Imam was speechless.

I continued, "I also have a problem with being your 'friend' when you
And your brother clerics are telling your followers to kill me! Let me
Ask you a question. Would you rather have your allah, who tells you to
Kill me in order for you to go to Heaven, or my Jesus who tells me to
Love you because I am going to Heaven and He wants you to be there with
Me?"

You could have heard a pin drop as the Imam hung his head in shame.

Needless to say, the organizers and/or promoters of the
'Diversification' training seminar were not happy with Rick's way of
Dealing with the Islamic Imam and exposing the truth about the Muslims'
Beliefs.

I think everyone in the US should be required to read this but with the
Liberal justice system, liberal media, and the ACLU, there is no way
This will be widely publicized. Please pass this on to all your e-mail
Contacts.

This is a true story and the author, Rick Mathes, is a well known leader
In prison ministry.

"This is wasting company time and constitutes theft from the company for their time sending it and my time having to sort through it"

Your arsenal is bristling with lovely phrases to use on the company bigots.

Use 'em.

Typical right wing lies and distortions. Boy, do people hate it when you "Snope" this crap and send it back to them with a "reply all". I have found they take you off their distribution lists very quickly then talk about the "crazy misguided liberal" (you) behind your back.

And connected directly to the people who author and distribute it. Along with a thourough debunking of this kind of hate mongering.

First, I doubt whether the story is true. No "Imam" is going to go to a meeting of westerners to explain his faith and "admit" that it's the duty of a Muslim to kill non-believers.

Either it's a bald-faced lie or this "Imam" needs retraining in the basics of his own religion.

13. Some one PLEASE tell me something........
.....at the risk of being flammed for the next week or more, I don't get the point of objection to the email. To me it appears to be at least some truth to this - so what is the gripe?

According to "World Book Dictionary" an infidel is (noun) "someone who does not accept a particular religion: (adj) not accepting a particular faith, especially Christianity or Mohammedanism.

So it appears the general message given in the email at least has a ring of truth to it. I'm by no means saying this is reason for discrimination of any kind, I'm just saying that according to a dictionary the email appears to be based on fact. That being a given, according to the dictionary, what is the objection? Is the gripe the way the email deals with the issue? Is it that someone had the audacity to expose the issue of an "infidel" face-to-face in public? Or is it that by exposing what appears to be a fact we may now, as a country, have to deal with the issue head on? Or, is there some other issue here that I'm just not seeing??

OK, before you flame me from here to hell and back at least give me some more info on what everyone seems to be objecting to.

19. Not flaming, but informing
Nowhere in the Qur'an does it say it is a Muslim's duty to "kill infidels". That's the part of the email I find most offensive. The Qur'an says you only fight someone if they forbid you from practicing your faith, that you are to stop fighting when you have that right, that you are to treat captives with kindness, that you are forbidden from killing innocents, and are also forbidden from destroying their property. The Beloved Prophet (pbuh) had attempts on his life several times when he first tried to explain to the pagan Arabs about the Unity of God. He did not retaliate in any way; the Muslims only fought the pagans when they were driven from Mecca and were on the point of starvation!

BTW, we Muslims submit only to God-so it is a misnomer to call us Mohammedans, for we don't worship the Beloved Prophet; he was a human, not divine.

20. COOL - thanks for the info - so if I understand correctly.......
....it isn't the unblieving part that is or might be of issue - it's if and only if a Muslim is prevented from practicing their religion that they'd fight??

For further information sake only, why then don't "peace loving Muslims" (for lack of better term right now) speak out more forcefully against the radicals in their religion??

Just curious, hope you don't mind.

29. No problem!
I'll answer your question, but first one other thing; unlike Christianity, at least in some sects of Islam it is forbidden to try and make people convert. In most Sufi orders, this is definately the case; in fact, in some orders, people are discouraged from joining.

In the Middle Ages, Christians and Jews living in Islamic lands were allowed to practice their faith; they paid a special tax, but this was because they also didn't have to join the army, and the money was used to support the military.

Now, why don't peaceful Muslims speak up? Well, there are several reasons. One is that Saudi oil money is behind the fundatmentalists, and they have gone into other Muslim lands, building schools, etc-what Westerners might not realize is that often the schools feed the students and sometimes their families as well. The word is, toe the fundamentalist line or you're kicked out and your family starves.

Second is that progressive Muslims are systematically harrassed or even barred from practicing their form of Islam in many of these countries. In Iran last week, a Sufi meeting house was burned and bulldozed down, and over a thousand Sufis, who were there peacefully protesting, were arrested; some were tortured. In order to go free, many had to sign a pledge they would not go back to the town (see Islam/Muslim group for the article about it). It is illegal to practice Sufism in Saudi Arabia, and Sufi shrines have been routinely destroyed there. In Turkey, it is illegal to do Sufi practices, which are done in secret.

Third is that we Muslims in the West, especially those of us who are native born Americans, do what we can do, but it's not much. After all, how much influence did American Catholics have on stopping the Troubles in Northern Ireland? The one thing I know to do is to give out as much information as possible. If you go to Islam/Muslim group site here, you'll see articles that have been written by progressive Muslims around the world, giving ideas as to what we can do.

Kindly remember that the MSM has an agenda in regards to how it presents Islam, just as it has an agenda on how political liberals are presented. You have to dig a bit to find out more about Islam, but I think it is worth it.

Please don't hesitate to ask me questions; if I can, I will answer them to the best of my ability.

32. Realize that
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 01:02 PM by ayeshahaqqiqa
to some Muslims, I would be a heretic-like other faiths, there are many many many different forms of Islam. One thing I have found, however, since reverting to Islam, is that if I say I am Muslim, I am welcomed by other Muslims, no matter if they are Sunni, Shia, or other Sufis, even if the other Muslims are immigrants to the US.

If you'd like to take a peek at a Muslim board that is open to everyone (even atheists), please check out www.whyislam.org (That's the home page; on the left you can link to the discussion board. And no, no Muslim will come call on you at your house with literature!:)) One thing you'll find if you go there is that there is a wide variety of beliefs among Muslims. But I think you'll also get a sense of the politeness and fellowship that you find there. Anyway, if you'd like to find out a little bit more about Islam from some folks who aren't Sufi initiates, that would be the place to go.

Edited because I wanted to check the link to make sure it worked.

15. I understand that in Exodus 35:2, the Bible instructs Christians to kill
From the Snopes dubunking:
http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/allah.asp
<snip>
"Consider the following recasting of the piece quoted above:
The minister gave a great presentation of the basics of Christianity, complete with a video. After the presentations time was provided for questions and answers. When it was my turn I directed my question to the minister and asked: "Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand that in Exodus 35:2, the Bible instructs Christians to kill everyone who works on the sabbath: 'Six days shall work be done, but on the seventh day there shall be to you an holy day, a sabbath of rest to the Lord: whosoever doeth work therein shall be put to death.'"

There was no disagreement with my statement. I responded, "So, let me make sure I have this straight. God has commanded Christians to kill everyone who works on Sunday, even Muslims and other non-Christians?"

The expression on his face changed from one of authority and command to that of a little boy who had just gotten caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He sheepishly replied, "Yes."

I then said, "Well, sir, I have a real problem trying to imagine the Prophet Muhammad commanding all Muslims to kill those of your faith for not observing the Muslim sabbath."

She is someone I get along with quite well, but she is a bit heavy-handed with her religion, though she does not mean harm. She just tends to buy things at face value and then think that everyone else should see these chain e-mails as well. She came into my office after printing out the snopes and was apologetic, though even then she clearly had not read it yet because she was starting to defend the e-mail with, "Yeah, but don't you think it's interesting?
