WASHINGTON, March 3 /U.S. Newswire/ -- The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) and School of Medicine and Health Sciences are pleased to announce a $2.7 million dollar charitable contribution made by Vice President Richard B. Cheney and Mrs. Lynne V. Cheney. The MFA is grateful to the Vice President and Mrs. Cheney for their generosity and support. This gift enables the MFA to establish the Richard B. and Lynne V. Cheney Cardiovascular Institute in their honor.

The mission of the Richard B. and Lynne V. Cheney Cardiovascular Institute is the advancement of research, education, and the clinical care of cardiovascular diseases. The multi-disciplinary Institute will be comprised of clinicians and scientists in the departments of Cardiology, Radiology, Cardiovascular Surgery, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Pharmacology among others.

One of the Institute's first initiatives will be identifying the significance of Genomics and Proteonomics in cardiovascular disease. "The Cheney gift has provided us an opportunity to achieve these goals," said Richard Katz, M.D., director of the Richard B. and Lynne V. Cheney Cardiovascular Institute and director, Division of Cardiology.

"Lynne and I have been grateful for the first-rate care provided by the doctors at The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates and we are pleased to support their efforts to advance the treatment of cardiac disease," said Vice President Richard B. Cheney.

"The MFA is deeply appreciative of this generous gift from the Vice President and Mrs. Cheney as their charitable contribution will enable us to do advanced research in cardiovascular disease," said Alan G. Wasserman, Chairman, Department of Medicine and President of Medical Faculty Associates. "We are honored that they trust in our excellent physicians here at the MFA," said Stephen L. Badger, Chief Executive Officer of Medical Faculty Associates.

The George Washington University Medical Center's commitment to a tradition of service, teaching and compassion is advanced with the establishment of the Richard B. and Lynne V. Cheney Cardiovascular Institute. This donation will allow the MFA to continue to operate at the forefront of medical research and technologies, as well as patient services.

The GW Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) is a non-profit, 501(c) (3) physician group practice corporation comprising the academic clinical faculty for The George Washington University Medical Center. In its sixth year of existence, the MFA has grown to include over 280 physicians providing medical care in 41 specialty areas. Aside from its expertise in patient care, medical education and scientific research, the MFA is leading the way to modernize the practice of medicine with the adaptation and implementation of technology to improve the patient experience.

But anyway, I doubt he's having a heart. But then again, my mom has been saying ever since he shot Whittington that perhaps he'll get a little empathy and unfreeze his heart a bit...since he shot his friend.

What would be funny is if someone like George Soros doubled the Cheney Tax write-off, which might get his name taken off the building.:evilgrin:
