Cheney can kiss my declining middle class ass!!!
Cheney Urges Americans to Save
Thursday March 2, 2006 3:46 PM
By JEANNINE AVERSA

WASHINGTON (AP) - Vice President Dick Cheney urged Americans Thursday to do a better job of saving and challenged policymakers to strengthen pensions and fix Social Security to help people in their golden years.

``The American dream begins with saving money and that should begin on the very first day of work,'' Cheney told a conference here exploring how to encourage people to boost savings and be better prepared for retirement.

Too often, workers are living paycheck to paycheck and are not saving sufficiently, Cheney said.

Last year, Americans' personal savings rate dropped to its lowest point since the Great Depression. The dismal state of savings comes as a big wave of baby boomers will soon start retiring.

That wave of retirees will eventually put massive strains on government resources as people draw on Social Security and Medicare benefits, Cheney said.

1. Fix Social Security?
If that lying mother F$#@!$ would put what he and his buddies have stole from SS back, it would have a surplus. They keep stealing from it to pay for illegal wars.
This all from someone who wouldn't/couldn't live on the average American salary.
:headbang:

15. Well stealing from SS for illegal wars isn't exactly right.
First, they stole from Social Security to offset their tax-cut giveaway to the wealthy elite.

Then they borrowed against Social Security to pay for their militaristic conquests (wars) and further tax-cuts for the wealthy elite.

However, you have accurately defined DeadEye Dick.

Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 02:39 PM by lyonn
Is it 15% or maybe 17%? I do believe that is considered saving since it is sopposed to go to SS and medicare. Course it looks like the govt. spends that money faster than we can pay it in. Or am I confused?

10. Congress has it's own "retirement" program...
...that none of the real WORKERS will ever see... so until they get rid of that deal, and have to live on SS like the majority of the country...

Then they should just shut the hell up...

People like Cheney and his back-door buddies are so far removed from reality it's scary.

11. economy is based on consumer spending/debt - it will fail.
Edited on Fri Mar-03-06 02:50 PM by dusmcj
since Republicans don't believe in industrial or economic policy and couldn't produce either if they tried, they based the US economy on cycling consumer wages back into the economy as consumer spending starting with Bush I, and tried to infect the rest of the world with their Old World Odor neoliberal idiocy as well, under the banner of 'globalism'. Any change from the current stasis of massive consumer debt being required to continue fueling an economy centered on producing an oversupply of non-needed luxury production would cause a worldwide economic implosion. They know it too. Maybe the Prongmeister is hearing his western roots calling and starting to feel a cleavage with his east coast money prep school apprentice. Or just mouthing more cynical bullshit. Hmmm, which is more likely...

12. If we had been drawing a living wage over the past two decades
our SS contributions would have been significantly higher, and there would be no SS crisis.

Depressed wages means low savings and low SS contributions.

We are not living paycheck to paycheck because of our profligate spending.

13. Social Security should never had been used as general funds.
If they would have left it the fuck alone from the get go it would be fine, moreso after Reagan raised the FICA taxes... but NOOOOOO they just spend all of it away. All the 80s FICA increase was was a huge tax increase on working people.

where people already aren't spending enough.

When the fuck did Dickhead ever have to live paycheck-to-paycheck? I'd like to slap him in a $7/hr job and see just how much his wise enlightened ass could save outta that after paying for rent, food, and utilities.

16. How do they expect people to save making slave wages?
They take about a third of my income for taxes and SS. I can't imagine if I had kids what I would be doing. I am more sad for the families that are struggling than I am for myself. I know I will survive. Hopefully.

Those who don't have money saved (aka the billions our friends like bill gates have) will starve to death.

23. well Dick... (warning I'm about to rant)
when most of my income goes to paying bills, rent and gas to get back and forth to work...

then add the added expenses for medical bills... medicne for my MS (whichjust one of them...costs up to 200 bucks a month). And add doctor vists, MRI's.. all those co-pays. It really adds up.

But I guess DICK, you and your buddies probably think that I'm wasting my money on all the medical shit. Right??

These people really make me sick. :puke:

oh and DICK... the whole saying "People living from paycheck to paycheck" MEANS that they don't earn enough to save any money... You freaking jackass.

Sorry... I didn't mean to insult all the jackasses out there.

/end rant

24. The American Dream begins with HAVING money. "Saving" money
is giving it to "investors" who are far more likely to spirit it away for themselves.

Just what does "living paycheck to paycheck" mean to this greedy bastard??? Let's confiscate all of his assets & pay him minimum wage... then perhaps he'll get a clue.
