1. They couldn't get embarrassed that Bush went AWOL? That the middle class
is shrinking? That the working class has to work harder for less? That US children go hungry? That Katrina blew away THEIR emperor's clothes for all the world to see?

2. Embarrassment to the Freepers? The truth hurts when it doesn't fit a...
warped perspective.

Gotta laugh.

3. He didn't exactly do himself any favors
Calling into the Imus show drunk off his ass, giggling like a little schoolboy, and then trying to report on Bush's nuke deal with India.

Here's a portion of the transcript: http://www.drudgereportarchives.com/data/2006/03/02/20060302_152556_flash2dg.htm

10. Might be Drudge, but still doesn't change what was said...
There's audio for this somewhere as well. Fact is, I don't think NBC would look very kindly on this sort of stuff. Fire him? I agree it's a bit harsh, but I think if most journalists called in to a radio or TV program like that, they'd at least be reprimanded.

18. check this snip from mediabistro

> Update: 3:35pm: "Gregory obviously had a fit of the giggles due to jet lag, etc," an e-mailer says. "Had you listened to gregory's second call in to Imus you would have seen that Gregory was clearly not drunk."

25. Giggles due to jet lag?
I've had jet-lag before, if anything it makes you tired as hell, disoriented. Maybe it was just the jet-lag, and maybe he wasn't drinking, who knows?

Still, doesn't seem very professional to call in to a show like that. I'm not knocking the guy himself, just commenting on how it appeared.

27. Sleep deprivation can make some people very silly, yes.
and apparently he got his giggles under control for a subsequent report. Given how many reports he does in a week, the whole thing seems like much ado about nothing.

36. I knew people (including myself) that worked late night shifts...
... on top of regular school. One of the most hilarious nights I ever spent in my life was with a group of friends doing Mini-Tab homework in a computer lab at 4am after getting off work at 3am. We were laughing ourselves silly. No drinking, no drugs, just all of us sleep deprived. It was a hoot! We were actually writing down our 'hilarious' jokes so we could save them for later (tech writing people - nerds and writers at the same time).

The next day we read our 'cool jokes' - they were pathetic! We couldn't understand why we thought they were so funny the night before... :)

32. K, does everyone who calls Imus have to be drunk?
teasing... but anyway, just because someone sounds goofy, does that mean they're drunk? If you're not there, and you don't see them stumbling around or smell alcohol on their breath, how do you know they're drunk?

This is like charging that Cheney was drunk when he shot Whittington. The only people who can claim this are the people who were there during the shooting, who witnessed his (allegedly) anhebriated state.

Sometimes people just do dumb stuff because they do, not necessarily because they're impaired.

Remember, the one who alleged Gregory was drunk was Drudge. The GOP faithful have been planning their Swift Boating against Gregory since the reporter was so bold as to actually press the WH Press Secretary for answers that um, make sense.

38. Yes, I listened to it live...
It wasn't as bad as some people are making it sound. He was giggling for some reason at the outset, then kept it up as the others chuckled back as Imus was feigning outrage and making comments like, "what, are you DRUNK?!" Imus himself was laughing about it. It came off as Gregory had something that was cracking him up, and what Imus and co. were doing was just kinda feeding into it. I can't remember if he called back in later, or if they just took a break and went back to him, but Gregory then did a report and sounded just fine.

Was he drunk? I don't know, I doubt it. The only reason people brought up about him possibly being drunk was because Imus suggested it, but anyone that watches his show knows he does that alot. Also, Gregory calls in all the time to Imus, and they usually have a playful banter back and forth. So Gregory came off as a loose guy yesterday, but he never really seems to be an uptight guy when he's making an appearance on Imus. I was always a little leery of Gregory myself, but after listening to him on Imus, and watching him on Conan one time, he's actually a pretty likeable, fun-loving guy.

People calling for his head are just pissed he's the one that invented the whole, "I have a follow-up since you refused to answer my other question" tactic. It's no surprise Bush supporters don't like the guy.

5. This sounds so much like the McCarthy era
if someone doesn't march in line, brand them as "the enemy".

Then, it was "communist sympathizers". Now, it's "terrorist sympathizers".

Gregory is just asking questions, which is what his job requirements are. He has a history of actually doing his job.

But no, any reporter who actually asks hard questions that are not flattering of the President needs to be swift-boated.

Disgusting.

because he is one of the very very few White House correspondents with the balls to ask Bush a decent and halfway tough question and then press the point.

I knew after the last 'press conference', when DG spoke up and infuriated Bush and his toadies, that the campaign against him would start in earnest. Here it comes- yesterday all over Drudge was a story that DG had been DRUNK when he called into Imus from India and now this crap petition that you report.

Bush is the biggest whining baby that ever has been in the White House. He can't take anything or anybody even questioning him. Who exactly does he think he is? King George? Oh, yeah, I forgot.

not clear that he was drunk. If I had to pick one reporter in the WH press corps who'd be the most likely target of a smear attack, David Gregory would be it. The only surprise here is that it's taken this long for someone to try something.

DG just got the "giggles," and was then egged on by the idot-imus. This is the most assinine thing I've ever heard. Like the above poster, I would sign a petition to give him a raise...he's the only one who actually does his job.

43. Freepers must have a 'get rid of Rush' petition going on somewhere also??
Or are they okay with him being drugged on the air?

Was there a petition to root out fake reporters from the WH press corps, especially if they are advertising themselves as male prostitutes? They weren't embarrassed by Jeff Gannon?

I never saw a petition to get rid of paid-for propagandists, which freepers must have been very embarrassed over ~

How about a petition to remove O'Reilly after the embarrassing 'loofah' incident?

Freepers never fail to prove their hypocrisy. Day after day, it's the one thing we can depend on in this uncertain world!

I hope he was having fun on the air, and so what if he had a drink or two. If I were traveling with Bush, and I'm not a drinker, I would have to be totally bombed in order to survive it! He and Imus were probably just having fun at Drudge's and the freepers' expense.
