Giving new meaning to "Don't take drugs": Drug companies drop the ball on
...safety studies

"WASHINGTON - Drug companies have yet to even begin nearly two in three of the follow-up studies they agreed to undertake once their medicines were on the market, according to a government tally released Friday.

Often the drugs received expedited approval from federal regulators on condition that the studies be carried out.

The Food and Drug Administration said in an annual report that, as of Sept. 30, 65 percent of the 1,231 so-called “post-marketing” drug studies that companies had pledged to carry out were still pending.

“That doesn’t mean they will never be started,” said Dr. John Jenkins, director of the FDA’s Office of New Drugs, explaining that 116 of the 797 studies were committed to during the 12 months ending in September. The clinical trials required under the commitments can take six months to a year to design and launch, he said."

Don't take any new drugs unless you have to! (The Bush Administration telling us once again how important our lives and welfare are to them!)

1. After hearing all those commercials . . .
. . . and the side-effects warnings - sheesh! One even mentioned "rectal bleeding." Now, seriously, if there's any possibility at all of something I voluntarily ingest giving me rectal bleeding - well, it just ain't gonna happen!

my jaw listening to yet another list of side effects. Unbelievable what people let these neophytes do to them. Not me, brother, not me.

My favorite problems are the kidney and liver problems. "Don't take this if you have liver or kidney problems" -- Oh? Hmm. Could that be because your poor liver or kidneys couldn't survive this shit if they're already weakened?

And of course, my next favorite side effect is death. Viagra can give you death. I like what Candace Bergen said on Boston Legal Sunday night: we don't have a cure for cancer, but we do have 3 different kinds of these little blue pills. ANd if THAT isn't an insightful commentary on what the fuck (pun intended) is wrong with this country, I don't know what is: too many men thinking with and caring about their little heads instead of their big heads. Sick, sick, sick, sick.
