Outrageous statement by SD state Senator Napoli on Newshour
about the SD abortion ban, this in his own words the only time there should be an exception

BILL NAPOLI: A real-life description to me would be a rape victim, brutally raped, savaged. The girl was a virgin. She was religious. She planned on saving her virginity until she was married. She was brutalized and raped, sodomized as bad as you can possibly make it, and is impregnated. I mean, that girl could be so messed up, physically and psychologically, that carrying that child could very well threaten her life.

so if you aren't a virgin or religious or "sodomized as bad as you can possibly make it" then tough shit!!

SD--you're dead to me.

3. he has convinced himself SD can go back to the old days, looks like he's
busy building that bridge back to the 50's. I cannot believe the attitude of the state legislature there, it's frighting.

2. I mentioned this on another thread
this is just so sad, this is the reason that the government should not interfere with
people's lives. They are clueless, look at the pain that they caused Michael Schiavo,
it's ridiculous.

we seem to have them for every generation so they are planning their next harvest, they
recruit from the poor. Remember Cheney did not go to fight because he had other priorities.

15. Going to need more $
Since there are 45 Million Americans who have no insurance. Are fellow citizens going to be expected to foot the bill so that women who have no insurance and become pregnant don't become homeless because they have to pay out of pocket for the pregnancy expenses?

Bushco throws everything back on the states to pay for and if that isn't enough the desperate are then funnelled into "charitable organizations" where they are forced to
do manual labor like telemarketing for food, prayers and no money. Why do think Bush
loves the guest worker program and faith based initiatives. The republican congress has
shut down the hearing on mine safety, nothing to see or hear about unsafe conditions move along.

If they actually did the job they are supposed to do instead of acting like would be ministers, we would ALL be a lot happier. I don't want them to worry about whether I believe in Jesus or not, but I do want them to worry about my electronic voting machine.

27. You realize what this is
Rove is desperate, they cannot run on their record again, so let's bring out the abortion
issue and divide the country. This is so sad. Let's fan the flames of hate, make a little
repug barbecue and get us another victory. Let's not mention the casualties from Iraq that
we see every day, the loss of a major US city, the port deal, the ballooning deficit,
please hand me another hate burger, well done. They are PRO-LIFE, I didn't see
them doing beeswax for those thirsty babies in the convention center and the super dome.

What a go ahead for men to rape and force their victims to bear their child.

12. ....Legislating women's health care (some encouragement here)

....Legislating women's health care

FRED DE SAM LAZARO: Sarah Stoesz is the Minnesota-based CEO of the Sioux Falls clinic.

Sarah StoeszSARAH STOESZ, PLANNED PARENTHOOD: This proposed ban is a reprehensible attack on women's health care in South Dakota and across the country; it makes a bad situation completely intolerable for women.

FRED DE SAM LAZARO: Planned Parenthood is planning an immediate court challenge. Many antiabortion lawmakers agree the pro-choice group has a good case; that's why Senator Dave Knudson opposed the ban.

STATE SEN. DAVE KNUDSON (R): Even if recently confirmed Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito do not ultimately find Roe v. Wade to be settled precedent deserving of retention under the doctrine of stare decisis, but rather vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, there is still a 5-4 majority of the court, as presently constituted, to support Roe v. Wade. I do not believe it makes sense for South Dakota to lead the charge on this issue when we know the outcome.

26. He also favors a return to the days of shotgun weddings as a
traditional family value.

BILL NAPOLI: When I was growing up here in the wild west, if a young man got a girl pregnant out of wedlock, they got married, and the whole darned neighborhood was involved in that wedding. I mean, you just didn't allow that sort of thing to happen, you know? I mean, they wanted that child to be brought up in a home with two parents, you know, that whole story. And so I happen to believe that can happen again.

We can only hope he has no daughters.

31. Mr. Napoli, you are a creep, and you can't hide it.
Mr. Napoli sure was quite descriptive about this figurative young rape victim's assault. Actually, this sentence: ..."She was brutalized and raped, sodomized as bad as you can possibly make it, and is impregnated..." is just bizarre. Why even bring sodomy into the situation?

It kinda makes one wonder what dark things lurk in Mr. Napoli's mind...

35. The Sodomized Virgin Exception
Edited on Sat Mar-04-06 01:50 PM by sarahlee
Digby calls it The Sodomized Virgin Exception

Then, read this post about a "Lincoln 1860" strategy by Armando at Kos - I really think that this is the way to work against the Anti-Abortionists.

36. Keep speaking out!
Tristero at Digby:
...the politicization of the abortion issue has always struck me as a thinly disguised war against providing safe health care to the poor, especially women, rather than anything that engages a genuine moral issue which, in abortion's case, is a private one.

I still think this is true. But it is becoming clear to me that, not only because the issue of safe medical care for all Americans is an important issue in itself but because the right to such care impacts many other important issues, all of us must once again speak out, loud, clear, and often in favor of Roe v. Wade.

True, I've done so several times before, and just as unequivocally as I've done so here. But I feel a need to speak out even more. I recognize that others have sensed this need long before I have. They were right, I was wrong and I apologize.
