Listening to Mark Levine. Dems have no voice because they |
|
are not in power in any branch. It's those in power who have the ear of the media. Dems do have ideas and an agenda, but you simply don't hear about it.
I happen to think he's right, but if he is...WHY?
Isn't the MSM supposed to cover all stories? All sides? Has it always been like this? My problem is, I can't remember when any one single Party controlled all three branches of Gov't, so maybe it was the same.

2. If the M were truly MS, yes... BUT THEY'RE NOT "MAINSTREAM!!" |
|
They're the Corporate Media, and their goal is to advance the Corporate Agenda - unlimited power and profit.
Please don't call them "the MSM." It just encourages them.

10. That's the number of house and senate seats it will take to |
|
regain control of both houses of Congress in 2006.
15 House seats and 5 Seante Seats.
Don't be worried. I actually had to think about it for a while before I realized what it meant.

3. when democrats are in the media |
|
by and large it is the usual DLC crew, Lieberman, Hillary, Biden etc. Thank God we had a few minutes of Rep. Murtha and his stark truth on FTN this morning. That is rare.

5. No, it has not always been like this |
|
Twenty years ago, we had the Fairness Doctrine, which required newcasts to show different sides to an issue. But this was repealed because with the advent of cable, it was said, all viewpoints would be given a chance to be heard. Of course, that hasn't happened; most media is controlled by a few corporations, and they require that their stations toe the company line for the most part.
I'm old enough to remember when Democrats controlled all three branches of government. They did not work in lockstep-Congress would fight the President when they thought he was overreaching, and the SCOTUS defended the rights of individuals. Plus they were courteious to the Republicans, actually letting sit in on conference committee meetings about laws (and no lobbyists were there).

9. I doubt you are older than I am. I guess I just wasn't paying much |
|
attention to Gov't. I know I've heard a lot about how the Senate was always congenial to each other. They'd fight on the Senate floor and then have a beer together later.
I guess the big change happened when Nixon was kicked out. Some Pubs still haven't forgotten that. They're looking for payback!
I wonder if we will EVER see the day when Congress and the Senate actually works for the American People's best interests instead of the destructive partisanship of today? The only members who seem to still have at least some of that are the very old members, and soon they will be gone.

12. They were congenial long after Nixon |

I remember Reagan and Tip O'Neil drinking beer together (two Irishmen). I think the end to civility started when Newt Gingrich was in the House. He's the one who made "liberal" a dirty word.
The demise of the media (and the Fairness Doctrine) began when Reagan was president and was finished off by Clinton (one of the worst things he did).

but I've been fascinated with politics since the 1960 debates. The Republicans used to have a club called the Chowder and Marching Society, where they'd meet and discuss strategy. This was where they came up with the Eleventh Commandment: Thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican. At the time, since they were so outnumbered, it made sense to stick together, and to believe that the party leaders had the best intentions in helping the party. Part of the problem with Republicans today is that they still have the Chowder mindset, and they don't dare speak out against their leaders. The Dems, on the other hand, have always been a rowdy bunch, with leaders never assured that everyone would agree with them. Remember Will Rogers once said he didn't belong to an organized political party, he was a Democrat. I think that even back in the heady days of 1933 there were Democrats in the House and Senate that had their own ideas of how to do things.

some warp has been put into the system, going back to the jfk/rfk/mlk/malcomx murder era, and it is so vast, so psyche, that we can't see it, can't even talk about it.....the newsmedia remains almost seamlessly devoted to lying (notice during the tsunami that the more then 3000 american victims received NO MEDIA? if we could answer why, then we would identify what it is that is ruining this most vital element of democracy)...even after bush resigns, or quits due to cancer, or whatever other trick the gopigs come up with, our society will be controlled by men who's lives and fortunes depend upon maintaining a state of affairs that degrades the whole BTW such a political force as liberalism, easily representing the majority of the citizens, still SEEM powerless, as if daschle and feinstein and lieberman or even john kerry or al gore or bill clinton speak for it! It took 30 years of behind the scenes fukking around and schemeing to get to this state

For the most part. With a few notable exceptions. They remind me of Oliver Twist asking for more at dinner. :sarcasm:
