Gov of SD said woman should see child as "gift". What about the MAN????
The Governor said yesterday that the woman who wants to have the abortion should instead see the child as a 'gift".

this is disbturbing on many levels - his bald assertion that woman in general view unborn babies, as I guess, garbage or something

Secondly - what about the FATHER? Shouldn't the FATHER also be forced to see the child as a gift? Shouldn't he be forced to pay child support for 18 years to his gift?

The fact that the Governor omitted ALL REFERENCE to the FATHER just proves that this is ANTI WOMAN not prolife legislation designed to punish women. If he had involved the MEN in the statement and indicated they would be forced to be ACCOUNTABLE I guarnatee he would be forced to repeal that law immediately.

PLEASE CALL THE GOVERNORS OFFICE AND RAISE THIS ISSUE

4. Let the people of SD pay to legally defend this law
That's the only silver lining I see in all this. You voted for these despots and supported this, now pay for it. Instead of madicare, roads and schools, use your tax monies to defend these men trying to control women. Forget about major corporations relocating to your state because no major corp. will want to face the backlash if they do. Sorry SD, you asked for this.

which gives some flexibility for a terrible piece of legislation

all the progress made in the last 50 years is being erased in eight years of this administration

11. A 'gift' ??
... he's obviously never been an impoverished single parent with a sick, screaming child looking frantically for someplace you haven't bounced a check yet so you can get the prescription that the ER just gave you filled at 2 AM, knowing you have to get the kid to a substandard daycare to be exposed to the same virus all over agaon at 7 AM so you can go work the first of 2 or 3 menial jobs in order to keep the lights on at La Cucaracha, which you currently call 'home' ...

15. the man doesn't have to carry the child for 9 months
when all is said and done, the man can always quietly disappear and it can be damned difficult to track him down if he has disappeared before DNA test/proof of paternity

it is only recognizing reality to know that men are not impacted by unwanted children to the same extent that a woman is impacted, the man's body is not changed forever, the man has no risk of gestational diabetes or high blood pressure, the man has no risk of post-natal depression which carries with it the rare but not unknown risk of suicide

sure the father should be forced to pay child support thru college but if he's fast on his feet, he won't be, because he will never be found

yes, the law is anti-woman but i don't need a poorly spoken governor to figure that out

men may be held accountable under law but the trashiest men (the rapists, the child molestors) are not going to be held to account, if they are caught, they will be in prison where they can't contribute to the child's upkeep -- and who wants to share custody with her rapist anyway -- if they are not caught, well, by definition, they are not caught and they are not going to pay

it's a shitty situation that's for true

16. I love how these rich (mostly) white men
make decisions for an entire group of people in a situation that they will NEVER find themselves in. How fucking compassionate of them. What drives their fear & hatred of women?

Thanks, Norma for the address/phone. I will write today to express my outrage at his lack of sensitivity & hypocrisy.

21. Dear Governor Rounds

My family was always taken with the natural beauty of your state, and over the past 50 years spent a great deal of time there. We've even had large family reunions in the Black Hills. In fact, in the early 50's my mother was even a member of The Black Hills Playhouse. We are not a particularly affluent family, but when planning vacations we always put South Dakota at the top of the list. I was considering vacationing in your state this summer.

Not any more, Pal.

Since you and the legislature have shown your true colors as a two bit toadies for right wing theocratic nutjobs, my family will no longer set foot in South Dakota or spend one thin dime there.

Perhaps you don't really care what I think. But you DO care about the money, don't you ?

have a nice day,
XXXX

(This gets the point across, I hope)

22. Let's not forget the Laci Peterson scenario:
How many women's lives will be put at risk because abortion is not an option? It HAS HAPPENED. Men have killed the women rather than support the child.

25. I saw a scary-ass white woman on the news last night
that, when asked about the rape and incest cases that this law fails to exempt, said that she had not seen any women have any "issues" with babies conceived in this way. Apparently, in her experience, they were all happy to have these babies.

How fucking ignorant!!!
