ABC News Poll: Hillary stronger with Dem base than McCain with GOP |
|
but, McCain has broader overall appeal and less negatives than Hillary.
Overall Hillary has a 52-46 favorable rating among all voters with 27% strongly favorable and 33% strongly unfavorable.
Among Democrats Hillary's favorable rating is 80%-16% 50% of Democrats are "strongly favorable" while only 7% are strongly unfavorable.
Among Republicans Hillary has a 19% favorable rating and 79% unfavorable rating--not surprising.
Among Independents, Hillary has a 53-45 percent favorable rating. 25% strongly favorable and 32% highly unfavorable.
Among Liberal Democrats Hillary's favorable rating is a whooping 86% with 48% strongly favorable and only 3% strongly unfavorable.
John McCain has an overall 59-29 percent favorable rating. Among Dems he has a 57-23 percent favorable rating. Among Independents he has a 59-29 percent favorable rating. Among Republicans he has a 64-27 percent approval rating.
Among Liberal Democrats McCain has a 61-31 percent approval rating. Among Conservative Republicans he has a 69-24 percent approval rating.
The conclusion of this poll is that Hillary probably has a better chance of being nominated by her party than McCain by his, but that in a General election that McCain would be the stronger candidate overall due to his lower negatives and appeal among democrats and independents.

everyone keeps telling me I should vote for Clinton, but I never see anyone actually supporting her except republicans and DLC folk. This overhype is getting really suspicious.
Is Ms. Clinton the ONLY democrat we are allowed to run for president?

|
Not a single one.
Now explain to me how she is always the "Democratic front runner"?

then. Hillary is very popular among real democrats. When people get a whiff of McCain they will drop like flies. He is a mean and obnoxious Conservative much like bush.

Just because Hillary is standing in the middle of a pile of shit doesn't mean she smells good.
It is of no interest to me that democrats find her more suited to office than any particular Republican. What matter so me is that I do not find one thing about her that makes her my choice of a Democrat to run for President. There are so many better choices, in the mind of myself and virtually every admitted Democrat I know. All she does is raise the ire of both Republicans and Democrats like myself - and ther are litterly millions of us out here.
I would neve vote for Hillary in a Primary and I would avoid the polls for the first time in my voting life (I have voted for the Democrat in every Presidential election since and including 1968) if she were to be the Democratic Candidate. Does that make me something other than a Democrat?

11. I agree with you, but there are quite a few who do support hillary |
|
the problem is she is a polarizing figure between democrats, and a unifying figure for repukes
democrats better find someone who universally appeals to their base, NOT DIVIDES IT

6. That's great. Who cares? |
|
We need to concentrate on 2006 -- don't let them distract us with this 2008 nonsense. Let's take back the Congress! We can worry about the presidency (and get into our "favorite candidate arguments") after November.

7. the poll is right about mccain with the freepers |
|
but hillary support is extremely divided among democrats, and if the democrats are smart they will go with someone who has broader appeal among democrats

13. It's funny, but I don't feel no real support for her either? But I do |
|
know some Repukes that tell me that the Dems are going to choose Hillary, as if they are teasing and taunting me because they know I'm a Dem.
I really do believe Repukes have wet dreams about this.

15. This is not new - for the last year, |
|
we've heard that McCain has a great chance in the general election, but may have trouble in the primaries. While Hillary, per the pundits will be a shoo in in the primaries (just like Liberman was in 2004), and may have a very hard time in the general election.
That McCain has a 57% approval from all Democrats (69 % approval rating among liberal Democrats) is very strange. Hillary, meanwhile has and approval 19% from all Republicans. Approval doesn't mean will vote for but 100- (that percent) don't actively approve so clearly won't vote for you. This clearly says that McCain will do better getting his opponents base.
Independents have a 59% approval for McCain and 53% for Hillary. These numbers are better at this point for McCain.
