Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."
"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"
His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.
Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?

several months ago, Senator Clinton sent out an issues survey so that she could hear what Democratic voters had on their minds ...
she provided a pick list of issues and we were given the opportunity to check all that applied ...
guess she figured no one really cared about Iraq ... that's a fact, Jack ... Iraq was not among the issues Mrs. Clinton deemed important ...

20. We Colbert fans prefer truthiness over facts. Facts confuse issues. |
|
Funny, I was explaining truthiness vs facts to a Libertarian at work today. He doesn't believe the poll that 71% of troops in Iraq think we should get out. Said the sample was large enough. I tried to explain sample sizes and MOE, even sent him some links, but he still refuses to believe.
He also doesn't believe in Global Warming.

one of the other liberals in the discussion brought up the Flat Earth Society. I replied that I the Round Earth theory didn't have the feel of truthiness about it, and it challenged my worldview. The Flat Earth did have the feel of truthiness, and so the world MUST be flat.
This was an email discussion, and I haven't heard back from my conservative friend yet. Monday should be interesting!

that has thrown the world into bloody chaos. If Senator Clinton thinks the idea is good I don't want her any where near the Presidency where under the influence of the DLC and AIPAC the bombs will be loosed on Iran.
The Fundies and their foolish cultural wedge issues will always be with us and we will be fighting them with or without President Clinton. Democrats must make a binary distinction on the immorality and criminality of the concept of pre-emptive warfare.

37. It's pretty self-explanatory. |
|
Everyone with half a brain knew that Bushco were acting in bad faith when she voted for that atrocity. I'm aware of the copout rationalizations that the resolution called on the president to go through X and Y hoops before actually invading, but we all knew it was a blank check for war, it was universally depicted as such in the media, and yet she voted for it anyway, against the vocal opposition of New Yorkers, who opposed military action on Iraq.
But you know all this, don't you.
It doesn't matter, because there will always be plenty of folks who will let their dedication to the democratic party and any member thereof win out over their outrage that ANY human being professing to be a "democrat" would vote for a resolution that they KNEW would kill thousands of sleeping babies in their beds, in a country that they KNEW had nothing to do with 9-11, and which had been quietly complying with post Gulf War agreements for years, even as thousands of their children starved to death.
But what else should we expect from a woman whose husband regularly bombed Iraq for violations of the arbitrary "no-fly zone" (not imposed by UN decree, BTW), whose Secretary of State said that even if a half million Iraqi children starved to death under the sanctions, that it was "worth it".
I was a democrat for years, but it is actions like hers that have made it impossible for me to be one in good conscience now. I'm an American, and I'd like to be a Democrat, but above all of those things, I'm a human being, brother of all the people Bush has murdered in Iraq. And every single baby that was turned into so much chopped meat with Senators Clinton and Kerry's approval was EXACTLY LIKE MY BABY. Every bit as precious and wonderful and irreplaceable.
So spare me your rationalizations for Ms. Clinton's craven, calculating voting record. I've heard them all a dozen times before.

that facts rarely have anything to do with elections nowadays. Perception, perception, perception.
Just take people right from DU, and their preconcieved ideas on Hillary. We haven't even officially started the next presidential campaign season, and the fighting over Hillary makes the fighting over Kerry look like a game of flag football.
And this is within the ranks of people most likely to support Senator Clinton. My prediction is that she and the Democrats will get slaughtered, if she is the nominee.
For the sake of the party and the country, NO MATTER HOW UNFAIR IT MAY BE, it has to be someone other than Hillary.
