Industry already working to make your DVD OBSOLETE!

By Niclas Mika and Lucas van Grinsven Thu Mar 9, 1:54 PM ET
HANOVER, Germany (Reuters) - The race between two competing formats for future DVDs -- and the $24-billion-a-year home video market -- appeared wide open on Thursday as manufacturers said they would support both formats.

The Blu-ray format is backed by big consumer electronics firms such as Sony Corp (NYSE:SNE - news), Philips and Dell as well as most Hollywood studios.

But the HD DVD format, whose proponents are led by Toshiba, looks set to reach the market faster and offer cheaper players.

Consumer electronics maker LG Electronics and PC maker Fujitsu-Siemens both said on Thursday they would keep their options open after computer giant Hewlett-Packard said last month it would back HD DVD as well as Blu-ray.

But get this little quote at the end.

Asked if consumers would have to buy their favorite movies again, Blu-ray spokesman Simonis said: "Of course! But it will enrich your life."

Okay, Mr. Simonis. Enrich this. I've already built up a DVD collection. I guess I'll just have to put up with the "inferior" picture quality of my present DVDs, because I AM NOT buying them yet again in another format.. KISS MY ASS!

You gotta go out and shop & spend to show those terrorists who's boss. Don't forget your charge card.

3. If these greedy fuckers change technology every 3 years
Fuck them.
Who in the fuck can afford to upgrade thier DVD collections every 3 years or so?Not me..I still use my damn VCR.

It kinda makes me glad some people pirate this shit and pass it around online, really, because to be boxed in to switching technology and buying new DVDs well isn't THAT another kind of piracy as in the rich making a buck at the poor's expense by phasing out old technology that works FINE??
Think about it piracy isn't just little guys swappping songs to piss of the Riaa, it's corporations doing PLANNED OBSELECENCE.
