Oklahoma Governor says no evidence of civil war in Iraq.
The Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry (D) said on a return trip from Iraq that the talk of a civil war there was just that...all talk. He said everything was peaceful and there was no evidence of fighting.

Am I missing something here? I mean why did 49 Iraqi's die in the last 48 hours from bombings and shootings?

1. Sounds like Brad should cut down on the Jack Daniels.
I'm sure he got a lot of trustworthy information from the military PR while sitting in the hotel bar in the Green Zone.

2. The Iraq Civil War is real and at the same time there are
parts of the country not affected as much. Or at least that would be my guess. They are taking this Gov. around to the peaceful sections.

Kind of a standard propoganda technique.

17. A foreigner visiting Maine or California during the American Civil War
might have made the same pronouncement.

3. Politicians like Henry!
And all the others that visit Iraq, do so in a bubble. They stay in the Green zone, and under heavy protection. They don't see whats happening in Iraq, hell they're not even aware of whats going on there while they stand in the middle of the country.

Then they return to this country and tell everyone that things are going fine, no problems in Iraq that i could see. I mean it's not lying in their eyes, they really didn't see any problems. Of course being in a bubble will help with awareness problems, and only talking to military personnel from propaganda inc.

4. So, we're taking his word as "truth" that he went to Iraq?
Remember, these "visitors" to Iraq don't get the grand tour . . . they get the armored hummers and the actors portraying happy schoolchildren . . .

8. I fully agree with you. Our governor was in Iraq in January and
came back with the following opinion:

But Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said the Sunni-led insurgency was losing momentum even though insurgent attacks rose over the past year.

<snip>

"A light bulb burns very brightly right before it goes out," Huckabee said of the insurgency during his first trip to Iraq. "The insurgents know they have everything to lose if democracy continues."

So now that they've been there, I guess they are all experts.

He made the remarks at a fund rasier. There was no press. It did show up in a weekly paper called "The Hill Report"

11. The only hill report I can find is a blog...
seems to be by a woman that normally writes for
Fox Sports.

Sounds reliable, yeah right.

15. sorry
I heard with my own ears. Sorry that's not good enough for you. Funny how you rely on internet links to back up a point. What ever happened to truth and honesty?

16. Sorry, but I still need more.
I started to search for a link so I could let Henry have it
with both barrels. I need more that what you have given me
before I can do that.

I don't even like henry, but I have a hard time believing he would
say something as stupid as there is no fighting and everything is peaceful.

12. Sen. Wyden tours Baghdad, warns of possible civil war
WASHINGTON - Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden said Tuesday it is "crunch time" in Iraq, and that he saw ominous signs during his visit there that the country may be descending into civil war.

Wyden, a Democrat, returned late Monday from a three-day trip to Iraq with Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, a fellow member of the Senate Intelligence Committee.

"I came away saying it's crunch time" in Iraq, Wyden told The Associated Press. "Given all that's been done, what we have to recognize is ... there's a real possibility of civil war."

Over 50 dead as bombs explode in Shiite slum
By QASSIM ABDUL-ZAHRA
Associated Press Writers
BAGHDAD, Iraq - Police found four hanged men dangling from electricity pylons in a Baghdad Shiite slum Monday, hours after car bombs and mortars shells ripped through teeming market streets, killing at least 58 people and wounding more than 200.

The grim scene underscored fears that Sunday's bloody assault on a stronghold of radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr would plunge Iraq into another frenzy of sectarian killing.
