2. Uh no I didn't.
I turns out that I don't give a damn about Ed Schultz. His attacks on Murtha pretty much did it for me. He almost redeemed himself by being a supporter of an alito fillibuster, but basically I stopped listening.

3. I'm fairly certain I will no longer listen either...
It's tough though, since I have alot of commute time during the day, I'd much rather listen to AAR than the FauxNews affiliate carry Rush and Hannity.

11. ed who?
never listened to him, but since springer was added to AAR line-up I've come to appreciate Amy Goodman's excellent show... can you get NPR, earth-first? I think they've improved since AAR came on the scene.

5. I personally think Ed's a putz
During the Alito nomination some caller was asking, no begging, Ed to post the House and Senate switchboard phone #'s on his website and Ed said, "Why, what's in it for me?"

He could see no commercial value in doing so, so it was no go.

That's putz-like behavior.

6. This was right before he shut down the plant call
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 04:06 PM by mtnester
from a guy who snuck in on the phone...started out OK, but the caller was CLEARLY imitating Robert Kennedy's voice...Ed on caught eventually, and when the guy was firing back on some lame ass point he was about to make using Amy Goodman, it seems Ed figured out he was about to be set up and ENDED the call with that statement...

Or at least that was my impression anyway. He sounded PISSED at the caller, or maybe his staff...they went IMMEDIATELY to commercial break. Who knows what they bleeped out at the end from the caller when they muted him after "Well, Amy Goodman says..." MUTE

I was puzzled and this was the only thing I could come up with.

There is no reason to not "give a damn" about Amy - her reporting is some of the most thorough and honest out there.

East Timorese villagers about to be massacred?

12. I seldom listen to Schultz anymore. I don't know what his
problem with Amy Goodman is, but if he made that statement Ed is out of line.
Amy is one of the top journalist in this country. I only know of one DUer that has contempt for Army and I think she's a little nuts.

15. I can take her or leave her.
She's too didactic, strident and preachy for my taste. And negative. I don't think she's an effective communicator for those not already in the progressive choir.

Which may be why many like her. But for me: meh.

21. What was the context?
It's hard whether to judge if this was over a serious matter or about their respective tastes in ice cream. Amy Goodman is a hero and a national treasure to me, but that doesn't mean that no one can offer any criticism if warranted. As much as I like Amy Goodman, I sometimes disagree with her and I personally feel that no one should be immune from criticism.

23. He apologized, more or less...
Here's a link from his forums to a message about this that was posted by his producer, James Holm:

http://edschultz.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=11020

Speaking of the "Ed Schultz Message Board," my membership/login was recently cancelled (I was tombstoned, IOW). It all had to do with the situation with the former AAR affiliate in Phoenix, which was bought and converted to Christian format. When it was clear that the former GM couldn't get a new deal completed to obtain another home for progressive/liberal talk in Phoenix, some of the local show hosts banded together and started a project to lease time on another station, hoping eventually to obtain a full-time, permanent situation.

Ed has problems with how they're going about it, especially with their "grass roots" efforts, in which they're accepting donations from supporters in exchange for pixel block ads on a "million pixel" website. You'll find their effort at:

http://www.saveairamericaphoenix.com

Ed ridiculed and belittled their efforts, both on the air and on his Message Board, so I was one of the people who complained about that, using a membership that I had already created months ago. Here's a link:

http://edschultz.invisionzone.com/index.php?showtopic=10848

I followed all of the rules of their board, and when I started arguing with "Holmey" (the producer mentioned above), I even checked with the board moderator to make sure I was OK (he said I was fine). However, shortly after I started receiving support from other forum denizens, the producer deleted my account and removed the discussion threads regarding the Phoenix situation. He later restored one of the threads, but not my login, and then he also deleted the login for Jeff Farias, one of our local show producers/hosts.

The message board rules state that "We want opposing opinions expressed." Well....not really.

25. Seems to me that Ed is in it for personal gain...
rather than momentum for the progressive cause. What a shame.

27. It's probably more complicated...
...than that, in that he surely wants to be successful financially, but to me, he sounds fairly sincere about his beliefs and causes, so I'm ready to give him the benefit of the doubt. However, just like GWB, the people surrounding him are a large part of the picture, and I've seen plenty of other discriptions of problems with his producer, James Holm. Take a look at this part of a multi-part article from OpEdNews.com, for example:

http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_mark_s___060211_air_america_92s_birthd.htm

It contains a description of an online encounter the author had with "Holmey" (I dont find nicknames for grown men to be all that "cute" -- do you? That's a bit too Bush-like for me). I know that radio producers can behave a bit like "attack dogs" at times, but going over the head of your show's message board moderator and zapping users with whom you disagree and hiding threads/topics critical of something said on your show...that's a bit over the top, IMO.
