I figured out why I'm so pissed off and frustrated tonight |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 10:16 PM by Rude Horner
Earlier today my Senator, Russ Feingold, took a bold stand against this adminstration by submitting a resolution to censure President Bush.
Bill Frist - someone who I totally loath, a frickin' criminal in his own right - essentially tried to draw a line in the sand by saying "let's vote on this right now", and the rest of the Dems essentially caved. He dared us, and we blinked. What that says to me is that we've still got a LOOONG way to go to turn things around in this country.
I can't help but feel proud of Russ and frustrated as hell at the rest of the party. :banghead:

What is wrong with the Dems that they won't stand and fight....the old saying, "pick your battles carefully", is great but the Dems fail to pick any battles to make a stand on.....

Bush**ler is using the NSA to blackmail anybody who opposes him. If they annoy Dear Leader too much they get Wellstoned.

I stayed home late so I would not miss it. My clothes in the dryer got wrinkled. It was worth every minute. He was great. Thank you Wisconsin!
OK, I have been gone since just after the nonsense by Specter. Are they still going at it? Nobody is backing him up? I just can't stand it anymore.

Almost all politicians are. Look at McCain...he stood up to the North Vietnamese, but rolled over like a puppy dog to Bush the second he lost in the primaries.

4. Politicians do what they've always done, and that's... |
|
protecting their own asses. If you can get a Democratic politician somewhere in the heartland to abandon fighting for progressive issues because you got him so damn scared he'll lose his seat in November, you can bet your bottom dollar many will fold and choose to keep their asses in their seat rather than getting up and taking a stand. They know they come from districts that aren't really progressive at all, and the Republicans know it, too. The Repubs play on that.
Fear is a very powerful weapon.

Term limits? One term and yer out? Make it so re-election is not an issue? I've always been against term limits because I think that takes away from the voters options, but I'm having second thoughts. Half (I'm being kind) the voting public is too ignorant of the issues, and even ignorant of who's running, and I'm starting to think that a lot of people vote for a name that they recognize. You know - "Hmmmm...John Smith - I think I've heard of him. Yeah, I'll vote for him"

11. We have term limits for presidents, why not Congressmen? |
|
Edited on Mon Mar-13-06 09:42 PM by Selatius
Unless you want to be consistent and let Bush run for a 3rd term...
Regardless, the only solution I've come up with is to take a page out of FDR's handbook: Use economic populism. The Republicans have crap for policies when it comes to education, health care, the environment, and most especially the issues of war and peace. FDR would stomp them to pieces because of his stance on issues with respect to jobs and education and health care, issues that every ordinary person can relate.
They may know you represent a district in Congress that may not be considered "liberal" by any stretch of the imagination, especially on social issues, and you know their weakness as well. If you think you're going to go down, you may as well try and take as many of those sons of bitches down with you by attacking Republicans at their weakest point as well...by coming out unabashedly for working folks regardless of political affiliation.

|
What the hell is there to think twice about? Caving is not having a majority of the Dem leadership not standing behind Russ Feingold on this. THAT is caving!! Hell, most of them aren't even COMMENTING on this!! If that ain't caving, I don't know what is.
You can DAMN well bet that if this was the other way around - if this was a Democratic president pulling this crap - and a Republican Senator brought this up, he'd be getting TONS of support from other Repubs.

19. Were still the minority party - caution isn't a sign of weakness. |

I still think that it was the right thing to do, issuing a censure against the chimp, however you got to jab first, pile on the points, and then go for the knockout. If you try to go for the knock out to quick you leave yourself punched out and vulnerable. I still admire Feingold for taking this stand.

the other Dems are familiar with...he didn't have any surprise information... all of the FISA issues going on with this Admin, they knew about it .. They also knew Feingold was going to do this...why didn't they take the initive and rally together this weekend and discuss it.....
If he delayed any further that would have given the Repugs a better chance at grandstanding and not even Feingold to have the floor....Frist was tripping over himself to prevent this....the rebuttal from the Repugs was even worse....I don't know this just might have been the right time....

on these issues until the upcoming elections. And even then, they'll probably play it safe and keep their mouths shut hoping the American people will just get tired of the current majority and vote them out.
Not that there isn't a time for that, but, I'm disappointed to say, they certainly aren't leading. They're just waiting....

Keep their mouth shut and hope that by doing nothing, the people will just vote the other way.
Can you imagine if our founding fathers had this attitude? - Let's just leave well enough alone and maybe things will get better. :hide:
What a bunch of cowards.

Sen. and when I heard his comments on the radio today...Sen. Feingold is just wrong...I was screaming at the the radio, and I won't type what I was screaming. Sen. Feingold stands up and again tries to do he correct thing for the Constitution and the country only to have his knees cut out from under him as it appears now. I'm an e-patriot of his and I donate money to that fund, but the funds may be drying up for others.
What I would give to have a Sen. with some integrity!!!
