1. What's funny is that Thailand is still a monarchy, I believe. |
|
Though I'd hazard a guess that the King isn't really the head of government anymore.

2. I think it's like England except they adore their King |
|
He saved the place from a military coup back when I was on top of this sort of thing in the early nineties.

3. I think I remember that... |

The owner of a Thai place I used to frequent had a poster of him up in a place of honor.
Pretty cool, that.

4. We seem to see more and more of this. Think Spain |
|
Heck I recall what trouble the USNavy had when it first went in to Rota Spain with subs. No one hears me but I swear this movement is world wide for people who want to rule them self. It will get to the Middle East but the rulers and religious far right sure do not want it to come. There always seem to be people who think they know what is best for us when we can do it our self. Rule by birth and force is on the way out. Or so I think.

5. Izzie you have rather missed the point. |
|
This is not about wanting to rule themselves, these people are (rightly) using a democratic process we should all have access to, in order to remove a democratically elected official who disgraced himself by abusing his position.
It's a pity that Americans do not have the same power to protest without being frighted with Tularemia incidents, imprisoned, having marches seeded with agent provocateurs and being herded into fenced off "free speech areas". And never forget the protesting students who were murdered by polise for protesting.
I expect you won't know about any of this and won't find it in your history books, but you can find it all on the internet if you look. The biggest thing these days stopping people elsewhere from wanting democracy is seeing where democracy has lead America.

6. That is what Spain did,. I think. Million people took to the st. |
|
They put the rulers they had out by vote. They had put them in before by vote but did not like them. This to me seems to be what people are doing all over the world. Can you vote and march when you do not like what is going on? I have been in the side lines of some anti-nuke protects and the only thing they could not do was shut off the side walks. I am not so sure what they would do now on the big stuff like Vietnam days. Police got pretty crazy about that and even London had trouble with the US embassy at that time. I my self do not think people should have to get a permit for these things. It is a right I think. We can always vote the crooks out and I sure hope they do.
