Feingold Taking the Dean Route - Running Against Weak Democrats
I just noticed http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=659517&mesg_id=659517">this post about Feingold accusing the Democrats in the Senate of cowering to President Bush.

It appears that Feingold has hit upon a winning strategy for positioning himself in the 2008 primary race, which I believe is already underway, with Joe Biden having discussed his decision to run in 2008 on this morning's Today Show with Katie Couric.

Rather than run against the Republicans, Feingold can run against the weak-kneed Dems.

It worked for Howard Dean.

Well, at least until Iowa.

1. Could very well be a strategy
Certainly he is going to come out of this smelling like a rose to us - and I think looking good to middle america as well. He stood up at the very least.

On the other hand he'll piss off a lot of fellow party members, some of whom he's going to need in his camp to make a his run a reality.

2. The great thing about running against Dems is that it earns the
respect of Independents and Republicans as well as the liberal base.

The one thing those three groups seem to agree on is that a lot of our people don't seem to fight like they mean it.

3. This is how I see it:
We are really at a place in history we have never been before. This gang makes Nixon's White House look like a tea party. I think Feingold sees Bush and the people around him as seeking to permanently shift our government to a corporate state. Feingold may very well be the one man who will honestly be able to step forward and say that he stood up for our democracy. He can point to other democratic challengers and call them appeasers of the Bush cabal.

4. Exactly.
He also gets the benefit of calling out the Dem leadership.

It would be nice if he name checked the Dems that supported this move though, namely Kerry.
