Florida's New State Motto Passes Committee
(Last item on the page): http://www.tbo.com/news/politics/MGBVGRWOUKE.html

Committee Approves State Motto Bill
A bill that would declare the phrase "In God We Trust" Florida's official state motto passed its first scheduled committee on Wednesday.

The Senate Governmental Oversight and Productivity Committee approved the measure 6-0.

"It's not too often we do something everyone in the Legislature will support and I believe everyone in the state of Florida will support" this bill, said Sen. Mike Bennett, R-Sarasota.

Currently, there is no official motto designated in the state statutes.

1. No, not everyone in the state of Florida will support it
Everyone who is atheist, agnostic, or just believes in separation of church and state will oppose it.

"Florida: Yes, Virginia, There is a God"
"Florida: Not Just for Heathens Anymore!"

9. And Terri Schiavo will be featured on all the state
ads pushing this new "motto."

Jeb Bush has proven to be nothing but a theocrat. . .and Florida by now should have figured out that a Republican will lie, cheat, steal and pretend anything to get power, and then usurp democracy at every turn.

21. I live in FL
"It's not too often we do something everyone in the Legislature will support and I believe everyone in the state of Florida will support"

Another Repug who dares to think he can speak for everyone.

I live in FL and I do NOT support this motto. The only thing I trust "God" to do is continue to let Bush** and the Neocons use Him to rally ignorant hypocrits around lies and int'l murder sprees.

31. Uhmmm... Fields of Opportunities (Iowa) -- which was a step up
When I moved here about 10 years ago the state motto was "Iowa: You make me smile." :) :) Of course, that one clicked because it is difficult to read that one without laughing out loud, much less smiling.

Hmmm... I have to wonder if Florida is hit by a Cat 5, will they still trust God? Or, better phrased, will they still trust the little men they've sat on pedestals as God?

32. I Object!
Our license plates have 'Sunshine State' across the bottom. I thought that was the state motto - ergh - nevermind, that's the state nickname.

Personally, I'm enjoying the mottos other DUers have come up with in this thread, and think the legislature should consider them as well.
