Rummy asked how history would treat him...

http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N17235763.htm

<snip>

WASHINGTON, March 17 (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, the craftsman and unyielding defender of the Iraq war, was recently asked how he thought history would treat him.

"You know, I don't have the vaguest idea. But I'll tell you this: I don't worry about it," Rumsfeld said during an appearance before the Washington press corps.

"I can tell you one thing for sure," Rumsfeld added. "The people writing the news today, tomorrow and the next day are not writing history. It will take a little while, a little perspective."

...

"I do think that this is Rumsfeld's war, and I think Rumsfeld thinks this is Rumsfeld's war," said Heritage Foundation defense analyst James Carafano, who added that Rumsfeld's legacy largely depends upon whether the Iraqis are able to grab ahold of their own country.

5. Remind me of a classic BUSH quote from a few years ago ...
... when asked the same question:

"How do you think you will be treated by history?"

His response:

"Well, I won't know, because if it's history, I'll be dead by then."

9. This proves he is not a Christian.
If he were really a Christian, he would worry that if he were judged evil, he would end up in hell. Bush obviously doesn't believe in a "judgement day" or even karma.

Members of the elite really don't believe in an afterlife--they just pretend to to fool the masses while they live in luxury for the moment and worship decadence.

13. The only history that will ever - ever - bother anyone in the Bush Regime
Will be a history of their convictions for war crimes and how they spent the remainder of their lives in prison.

Other than that, they won't give a damn what some historian writes about them. The damage is done, the profits were made and as long as they stay free, some future tome of "bad rumsfeld!" isn't going to make the slightest bit of difference to Rumsfeld or anyone else in the Bush Regime.

You think Negroponte cares what history says about him already? Has it cost him his future? Has he lost a job? money? his freedom? any opportunities? Death Squad Negroponte is still in a position of power. Nothing history has said about him has made the slightest bit of difference - because in the end, he got away with his crimes.

14. Iraq could become a Utopia ....
Edited on Fri Mar-17-06 02:35 PM by Babel_17
but that wouldn't change the fact that a huge number of lives were needlessly lost and an incalculable level of misery needlessly incurred due to Rumsfeld's arrogance, incompetence and miscalculation.

The generic argument for every Iraqi war discussion that somehow this hypothetical Iraqi democracy would make it all worthwhile is a republican talking point.

Even assuming that from this moment on the future history of Iraq will be one that's derived from a best case scenario the USA would still have scant cause to think the bulk of Iraqis would have a large reservoir of affection for the USA.
