I just asked my spouse about how you let a 5-year old go bike riding on his own? Answer, it's done all the time in the "country." Sorry folks, but rural American just ain't what it used to be.
This is so sad. My heart goes out to the parents.

but preferrably his older cousin. my eight yr old still doesnt hang out in front yard by himself. odds are in my favor, but not good enough for me. busy street, ....

...well, okay. I never actually let them. But, when they got into junior high school, they learned how to escape. So, I figured that was about the right time to cut them some slack.
By the way, is there a link to an article about this five-year old?
