Costco and Apple. Both 99% blue companies. Macs now at Costco. |
|
I just found out from someone that Costco is selling iMacs and Mac Minis at a great price including Apple's 3-year Applecare.
Buy Blue anyone?
Or are you running to Sam's Club to pick up a Dell tonight?

3. this would be a big change |

Costco has traditionally sold Dells and HPs. I don't know why Apple, which can barely keep up with demand as it is, would sell at Costco in the first place.

The new Intel chips drastically hamper the performance of virtually any software except Apple's own stuff. If you want a mind-blowing computer, pick up the 20" widescreen G5 iMac. In a couple years, when Intel, Apple and the software manufacturers are all on the same page, then let's talk.

My mom's new iMac has had no problems. I've tried out multiple programs and everyone the iMac has completely slayed.

28. Hold on there, it really depends on what you're doing |

I was an early adopter and have had my 20" Core Duo iMac for a little over a month now, and for most people's purposes Rosetta works wonderfully. I'm a gamer and Rosetta can take pretty much anything I can throw at it except for Sims 2. Knights of the Old Republic (the most demanding game I have besides Sims 2) runs like butter, and Neverwinter Nights runs better under Rosetta than the PC version did on my ex boyfriend's 2 yr old Dell laptop.
The only people I would advise against getting an Intel Mac right now are anyone who is a hardcore Photoshop user or anyone who relies on classic apps to make their living (Intel Macs don't have Classic environment). I only use PS to make icons and whatnot for Livejournal, so the slowness is irritating but bearable. However if I used it for a living it would be a pain in the ass, and Adobe is being bitchy and not releasing a Universal upgrade, they have stated you will have to wait until CS3 comes out for Universal. Word is also a little slow, but bearable.
Intel really is the wave of the future, I think anyone buying for the long term would be well served by getting one. Aside from some issues with wireless connectivity, I am 100% satisfied with my purchase. I would just recommend buying increased RAM; I'm moving in a month or two and when I do I am definitely getting 2 1 gig sticks of RAM--the other huge advantage of the Core Duos vs. the Rev C iMac G5s is that both RAM slots are user-servicable. For some bizarre reason, the Rev C iMac G5s have the 512 MB of stock RAM soldered into the slot, so if you want 2 gigs of ram you need to get a 2 gig stick which is obscenely expensive right now. Matched 1 Gig sticks on the Core Duo are not only doable and way cheaper, they give you better performance.

10. AFAIK, there are no Intel Minis yet |
|
Edited on Thu Mar-23-06 04:43 PM by Atman
What's the price? That could be a good score, although the Minis are only G4s. Still, unless you're doing big video projects or hard-core Photoshop work, even the Mini is a great little machine for the money, and it will do anything most users would ever need.

14. Yes there are, but they just started shipping. |
|
So my guess is that they are G4s. I routinely edit video on my PowerBook G4 in Final Cut Pro, so I'm sure that the Minis would work fine.
It's my understanding that the price is around the same as full retail, But they include AppleCare ($149 value Mini, $169 iMac). Also, the Minis include a wireless mouse and and keyboard.

Right now it's my understanding that they do.
Oh, they still have HPs and Dells too if a Red company turns you on.
