Subjects on Lou Dobbs Show tonight. |
|
Lou Dobbs Tonight Thursday, March 23, 2006
Congress declared a long recess before attempting to fix our nation’s illegal immigration crisis. When our elected officials return, they’ll come back to a Washington divided over immigration reform. Lawmakers are scrambling to choose sides in what has turned into a showdown between Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and Senate Judiciary Chairman Arlen Specter. We’ll have that report tonight.
Communist China is also Obstructionist China: Our friends in the Chinese government are refusing any U.N. sanctions on Iran, and they’re colluding with reprehensible regimes like Iran and Venezuela against U.S. interests. So why does the Bush administration insist on selling us down the Yangtze River?
And join us for our special report on China's increasing military might around the world. Our panel of experts – Gordon Chang, author of "Nuclear Showdown: North Korea Takes on the World", Arthur Waldron, professor of International Relations at the University of Pennsylvania and Richard Fisher, vice president at the International Assessment and Strategy Center – will discuss China's secret military buildup.
Questions are swirling about whether the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States should remain within the Treasury Department. But we’ll tell you why Treasury Secretary John Snow is speaking out about the importance of foreign investment in this country.
Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld has been defending the way this administration has handled the war in Iraq amid calls for his resignation. Brig. General David Grange tells Lou what he thinks about the strategy for victory and whether we will succeed in Iraq.
I think the battle in Congress and the China military discussions could prove pretty interesting.

Taped him this Monday cuz Randi was on and I was impressed.
Guy is nobody's lackey and made some contemptuous remarks about much of the madness he was reporting.
He also stated he was on the side of working people and the middle class. Downright SUBVERSIVE to hear such things in current MSM!

2. He says that a lot. He really is one of a very few hosts fighting |
|
against this insane administration! I may not agree with him 100% of the time, but the times I disagree are few and far between.
I know he claims to be a libertarian, but he's a very intelligent one and sure sounds like he's on the side of the middle class!!!!

Senator (NEV D) Harry Reid said he would keep border protection from being voted on. I don't think thats where most people are at on this issue.

4. I don't like that he labels Venezuela a 'reprehensible regime' |
|
Here Lou is carrying the Bush administration's water. Generally, I respect the man.

I have emailed the show and the producers in response to their poor representation on Venezuela - I tried really hard to be cogent, polite even if a bit frustrated with the constant distortions and misrepresentation as presented to the media by the white house etc.
I think it would be helpful if more du'rs who regularly watch Lou Dobbs and appreciates most of his populists/libertarian views (except his zenophobia) on the home front - to help debunk the myths with facts and sources on Venezuela and Hugo Chavez.. this might be somewhat helpful in educating Lou.

5. Lou has described himself as a populist. |
|
One of his regular people was describing "populist" as the opposite of "elitist". And Lou said some think like it is obvious which one he is. He does understand the grave importance of a healthy, growing and prospering middle class to the security and prosperity of this country.
He really does wig out over illegal immigration. But, I think he is trying to find some balance, and address the realities of the issue. He had a guest author on the other day who was describing the journey of a child from Guatemala, across Mexico, trying to find his mother in the U.S. I think it was "Enrique's Journey" or something like that. Many Guatemalan mothers are forced by extreme poverty to leave their children to try to find work in the United States. How sad is that?
She suggested, and he concurred, that economic development in Latin America is necessary. It is what every country needs, decent work for decent wages.
