Does Bush know he's repeating Nixon?
I've often wondered if Bush knows he's repeating Nixon. If he's purposely doing so. I'm watching the video from July 24th, 1973 from the Watergate hearing(s) and it's amazing how whenever they were caught doing something wrong all they say is "national security" like that's supposed to mean anything. Oh yes Nixon breaking into the DNC is for "national security" and Bush listening in on Quaker meetings is for "national security." :eyes:

1. Lord only knows
He was probably too drunk and stoned during Watergate to remember any of it.

6. Does he care?
The ? isn't does he know it's does he care? Cheney has made it clear he thinks Nixon didn't do anything wrong. Cheney thinks that the Pres. should be the sovereign power not the Constitution. Cheney also thinks that since were at war in this case a war by definition which will never end since it's a war on a method (terrorism) not a country that the Pres. (AKA KING) should have unbridled power.

14. Good point
If he did realize he'd become Nixon (far worse, actually), it wouldn't bother him. Although he might worry that he'll get bounced. He does care about what happens to #1, even if he doesn't give a shit about anyone else.

Welcome to DU :hi:

3. Nixon faced a Democratic Congress and an ethical, committed media
Bush has neither to deal with. W's crimes far surpass those of any other president, including Nixon. And he is not done yet. By a long shot. God help us.

15. Yes they all know -- Cheney/Rummy learned at Nixon's feet
If you have not read this article, it is well worth it to understand the whole Cheney Nixon connection. Can't remember I may have recommended it to you before. But it will knock your socks off.

The Long March Of Dick Cheney
Sidney Blumenthal

<snip>

The hallmark of the Dick Cheney administration is its illegitimacy. Its essential method is bypassing established lines of authority; its goal is the concentration of unaccountable presidential power. When it matters, the regular operations of the CIA, Defense Department and State Department have been sidelined.

Richard Nixon is the model, but with modifications. In the Nixon administration, the president was the prime mover, present at the creation of his own options, attentive to detail, and conscious of their consequences. In the Cheney administration, the president is volatile but passive, firm but malleable, presiding but absent. Once his complicity has been arranged, a closely held "cabal" - as Lawrence Wilkerson, once chief of staff to former Secretary of State Colin Powell, calls it - wields control.

12. Junior doesn't know shit. He's a tool; a sock puppet; a front man.

I really get tired of this "evil genius" crap ... and the obsession about what he "knows" or "feels" or "realizes" or "thinks". It's totally irrelevant - and he doesn't "know," feel," "think," or "realize" anything! He's a pathological narcissist who's dancing to whatever tune his handlers train him to dance.

16. Please let Bu$h get the trial that Nixon dodged.
Junior doesn't know shit. He's a tool; a sock puppet; a front man. All true. I want to see him: 1.disgraced; 2.cashiered, and; 3.convicted. Bu$h has already been disgraced (and has disgraced the nation), but that can go a lot deeper too, IMHO.

18. "Pathological narcissist" ...
is a pretty good description. I think that makes him an "evil moron" - "genius" is not a word that should ever, IMO, be applied to anything that is not inherently useful or beneficial - there are no conservative "geniuses". These operators, like Rove and Norquist, are merely cunning runts.

to the republic, or not knowingly, as if he's a "Manchurian candidate" robot constructed by al-Qaeda.
