A bomb blast has injured several people in Istanbul, Turkish officials say.

Police quoted by the Associated Press said 10 people were injured by the blast near a bus stop.

The explosion followed three days of street violence in the mainly Kurdish south-east of Turkey, but it is not clear if the incidents are connected.

The EU and UN have expressed concern over the tensions in the south-east, where six people have died in riots - the worst there for many years.

The EU urged the Turkish government to improve the cultural rights of Kurds and to develop the region's economy.
