Lieberman took part in a Freedom Ride
As one who was in grad school at the time, I find this very admirable. I would not have done this....way too scary and dangerous.

The statement that he took part in a Freedom Ride comes about 2/3 of the way through the article.

Sad and depressing pictures of children harmed by Iraq sanctions are also in this article, which describes beliefs and actions of a group opposing Lieberman's run for the presidency in 2004.

1. Yes, he did...he went to help register Black voters in the South
President Clinton always says that's one of the stories he loves about Lieberman. He admires him for it.

I do too, but he's become such a huge disappointment.

2. He's not that bad on civil rights issues, that's for sure
He just sucks on economic issues that are becoming civil rights issues. I'm afraid we can't afford the DLC types any more, they have simply cost us too much in terms of holding down wages and empowering corporations. They've also cost us too much in terms of power, making sure we're shut out of all 3 branches of government.

Civil rights issues aren't enough, no matter which side of 'em you're on. The GOP had to promise the middle and working classes a few bait and switch tax reduction crumbs off the plutocrat's table. It's time for the Democrats to return to their roots and offer something a little more substantial.

3. Good for him!
Too bad that he turned into a right-wing dick-head.

Now he marches to support fascists.

5. Yeah, he was a decent guy 40 years ago.
I really kind of wonder what happened to him.

7. Yes, that was commendable.
We wish that he would be so bold as to stand up for civil liberties now.
