It's occurred to me that what has caused the media to become so biased to the right is that journalism is "liberal". What I mean by that is that liberals want balanced, objective journalism, conservatives want propoganda. The media wants to be objective, and therefore piss off both sides equally. If the facts are liberal and journalism is liberal, then it must be balanced with conservative fantasies and BS until both sides are equally angry. But liberals, who accept objective reporting that presents both sides, won't complain until coverage is skewed unbelievably right. Conservatives will complain about anything but FOX News.
All this has been said before, but not quite in this way. A newspaper doing solid reporting based on facts is by definition liberal. Liberals won't watch a liberal FOX that distorts the news. What they want is a "liberal" media outlet - in other words, one that responsibly reports the truth.

1. I think it's to the point where everyone |

wants propaganda.Just watch the posts for Lou Dobbs until he says something we don't agree with.Even Olberman and the daily show are not immune.I know I get upset if the news reports something exactly as the White house puts it out even if they know it's spin, but I guess that's just reporting.

2. I Think You Have A False Dichotomy |

Objective=liberal propaganda=conservative
I don't know about that
the media in Europe is much more liberal in general than the most liberal media in our country.
I agree that our media is right leaning (more and more each day)
but I'm not sure that I agree that liberal=objective
I think unbiased reporting = objective
what we have in America is biased reporting, and it's all skewed right (with few exceptions)
even the "liberal" media, are more to the right in general than the liberal media in Europe are.

3. Sorry, I think this is so |

much balderdash, and I'm amused by your assertion that liberals want balanced, objective journalism. That's proved false everyday right here at DU.

If you discuss Evolution, global warming or the fact that things aren't going well in Iraq, that's liberal. Never mind that they are all scientific facts. For balance, the media must then present an equal amount of Creationist, Exxon, "We built a school!" BS to put their reporting somewhere between truth and conservative fantasy.
Evolution is a fact and therefore liberal.
The Earth is warming, which is a fact, so it's liberal.
Iraq isn't doing so well, which is liberal.
Facts have a liberal bias. Factual reporting has a liberal bias. Journalism that presents the facts has a liberal bias.
Why is Countdown, Daily Show and Froomkin liberal? They'll attack both sides. They're liberal because they're not afraid to present the facts, unfinessed to cater to right-wing fantasy.
If these were liberal, they wouldn't ever make fun of Democrats, or criticize them, or run stories that don't fit Dem narratives the way the rest of the media does for the GOP.
