7. I don't think those are DUers' commercials.
I confess I think I've watched all the DU ones, and those two are new to me...it looks like the cnet story is based on a specifically environmentalist group that's screwing with them the same way we are.

The DUers' commercials are, on average, funnier, I have to say...

15. Just a thought, but UAW members build those Chevy trucks
Har har. Let's piss all over what puts bread on union workers' tables.

Maybe we ought to try supporting Chevy, or at least refrain from trashing the brand. Unless, of course, you think it's cool that UAW jobs are endangered.

Peace.

vehicles that were environmentally friendly instead of these wasteful dinosaurs?

The Chevy workers build the vehicles they are told to build, and do a great job, within the confines of management decisions.

This ain't about them.

On edit: Perhaps it's time for my old employer, an Ann Arbor native son, to write Chevy another song.

21. Union workers can build hybrids and sedans too --
so get off it.

SUVs are among the most irreponsible inventions of the industrial age.

29. Those jobs wouldn't be in ANY danger had the executive....
...management of the major automotive corporations made the correct manufacturing decisions thirty years ago in regards to environment-friendly autos and trucks. I was being taught in the early 1970s in geology classes that oil would run out sometime before 2020.

So, what did the oil and auto industries do to plan for that future?

Not a darn thing.

Nobody here is blaming the unions, or wishing the unions harm. It's not the fault of the unions or anyone on DU that U. S. automotive manufacturing is in such a sorry state. You probably know that to be true despite the tone and content of your post.

30. "The Year 2020 - that's like an eternity away!!" Incredible how many
supposedly educated people are more than willing to stick their heads in the sand, in the face of powerful evidence. That type of mentality still exists today in posts I read on other boards...quite a shock to hear these types of statements from the die-hard Kool-Aid drinkers... :sarcasm:

31. What I do know is it doesn't help UAW to trash the cars they build
"Nobody here is...wishing the unions harm."

How, exactly, is it not harmful to union workers to circulate derision and negativity about the products upon which their livelihood depends? BTW, MLD, do you not sense the irony that while "progressives" talk trash about union bread and butter, and laugh at product lines they clearly know nothing about, it's Red Americans who disproportionately put their cash into the industry to actually keep these plants going? So who is keeping union workers fed? You? Or the people we love to hate? Mmmkay, how progressive....

It may shock some here, but outside of the cities, a lot of people depend on trucks to keep a farm or construction business running, or haul things necessary to their livelihood or way of living. There is a huge need for tough, reliable vehicles that can take abuse, and that need is not going away.

At this point, whose fault it is that GM is on the edge of bankruptcy does not matter. Everyone's a fucking expert when it comes to finger pointing.

What actually does matter is if American-made vehicles sell. If they do, then union people keep working. If not, then the union jobs go away.

Go here.

Chevrolet cars and trucks stack up very well in terms of initial quality, customer satisfaction, and gas mileage, compared to offerings from foreign makes, particularly Toyota. Take the 10 minutes you were going to spend writing a pissed-off response and instead learn something you don't currently know: that these vehicles are pretty damn good.

Don't buy a domestic car if you don't want one, but quit trying to make it so that no one else does either. Find something else to make fun of - Bushco provides endless material. Let's focus on that.

19. a "couple" slipped by huh?
People use "make your own ad" contest to blast SUV
Chevrolet created a contest to let users make their own ad for the Chevy Tahoe, but the company let a couple slip by under its nose depicting the SUV as a gas-guzzling, environment-destroying machine. Here are two clips from Chevy's site.

"LET A COUPLE SLIP BY".... yeah, just a couple....
