From "24" message board - no, no spoiler |
|
Last season Air Force One was shot down by a missile and the president was taken to a hospital. His V.P. then became the president and he is still this season.
Nothing was said about the former president and it was suggested that, as far the writers are concerned, he died from his wounds, but Fox did not want to have a program where terrorists manage to kill an American president.
But then someone wondered whether it is against the law to have any TV program killing the president. I find it hard to believe but, hey, these days.
Anyone?

1. It was never against the law |
|
The top brass at Fox just didn't want to show that because it would be too controversial.

They had no trouble showing the assasination of a former President in the first few minutes of the beginning episode of the season....is there a real difference?

4. Apparently to Fox there is |
|
Given recent events, it seems maybe the trend is shifting (maybe).

5. And now we know President Logan is working with the terrorists... |
|
Making the President a traitor is worse than killing him, I would think....
wonder if they might be doing that as a "dig" at somebody

9. That's what I tend to think :) |
|
Now if they'll just get rid of Audrey and give Chloe more screentime, I'll be fine with the show. lol

7. Maybe he didn't die. Maybe he was just a pussy. |
|
If smirk was ever attacked (he was far away and ran even farther on 9/11) he'd run to Crawford and never return.
Brave Sir Robin ran away. ("No!") Bravely ran away away. ("I didn't!") When danger reared it's ugly head, He bravely turned his tail and fled. ("I never!") Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about And gallantly he chickened out. ("You're lying!") ****Bravely**** taking to his feet, He beat a very brave retreat. Bravest of the braaaave, Sir Robin!
Isn't it time Bush apologized to China again?

8. Didn't they mention to what happened to President Keeler? |
|
I'm pretty sure that they said he survived but was in a coma or incapacitated (or something like that). I know Keeler's son was killed, but I remember Logan saying that Keeler survived when he addressed the nation after being sworn in.

10. I Remember hearing that last season... |
|
Logan did say that the President was in a coma when he was sworn in, but I don't think they've mentioned Keeler's status this season. All I'm sure of is that Logan is still in his first term as President, they did speak of an election.

he survived last season. And it was reported that by this season, for all practical purpose he was dead; might have even been mentioned in the DVD - which I do not have.
And this is what some on the message board were saying: that the writers did "kill" him, but that Fox did not want to have it expressed in public.
And, yes, they did kill Palmer but by now as a private citizen which still is different from killing a sitting president.
I know that for many last year, even shooting down Air Force one was traumatic (with all the OMG!! on that message board...)
