Let me be the first to say it: 2005 sucked. Bring on 2006! |
|
From the January inauguration to the NSA spygate revelations this month, 2005 was a friggin' nightmare. Not that Fitzmas didn't lift my spirits, but let's face it: if we can't actually get these bastards out of office, chortling over their fuck-ups is not going to help us survive the hell into which they are dragging us.
I want 2006 to be the year we take back Congress and impeach the fucker. My resolution is to do my best to make it happen. I think it's within our reach. It @#$! well better be.
Ring in the new, cause the old is REAL OLD,

6. 'Make the Vote Count' would be an excellent way to start '06 |
|
Even on a forum such as this it seems a lot of people fail to understand that our votes do not count. Perhaps we could become the 'loud little bunch.'

2. Let's make sure our vote counts |
|
This DU forum could be a great force in making that come about. I truly believe this.

4. We'd need the house just to start the process |
|
That would put us in 2007. Granted the process took a short time span (6 months). He'd still be in office 18 more months atleast.
Its almost better to just allow the GOP and Bush administration to impeach themself. There will be many more heads rolling in the next four years. Hopefully the public will wake up in the meantime and elect a good president in 2008.
I'd definately support impeachement though. What do you plan on doing.

7. actually, i think 2005 was great! |
|
2004 sucked because the election was a SERIOUS disaster (even though i maintain that america voted for kerry)
2005 saw shrub become a near-instananeous lame duck, many banana republican scandals unfolding, democrats exerting some semblance of power, and prospects for 2006 and 2008 have seriously improved.
all in all, things are looking much better than i feared 1 year ago....

I began the year fearing Bush and his "political capital". I'm glad to see that turned out to be a paper tiger.

14. if you thought 2005 was bad, you ain't seen nothin' yet . . . |
|
start with Iran's announced intention to activate their oil bourse (exchange) in March, and the inevitable US reaction . . . add in the fight over Bush's SCOTUS nominee, the upcoming fixed fall elections, the housing bubble that bursts, the final death of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, and the high liklihood of another staged terrorist attack -- it ain't gonna be fun . . .

20. 2006 is the year of 9/11 truth. We'll have five-year retrospectives |
|
in September.
Building up, we should publicize every 9/11 anniversary.
For instance, we've already had the five-year anniversary of Sandy Berger's 11/7/00 request that the Pentagon undertake commando raids against the al Qaeda training camps. (The Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs thought it was a bad idea, so the Clinton lame ducks dropped the plan.)
In January we'll have anniversaries of Bush's order that the FBI drop investigations of suspected terrorist financiers, and of Richard Clarke's preentation to Condi of his plan to attack al Qaeda through military action and interference with its financing.
If the American people are given the truth about 9/11, by September they will be demanding that Bush resign.

2005 can't end quickly enough for me. I'm not usually a New Year's lover, but I'll never be so eager to ring in a new year as I will this year. Good riddance to 2005, bring on 2006!

23. Yes 2005 sucked, but it was also a year of revelation... |
|
In the sense that the curtain was finally pulled back and the awful truth of this administration was revealed to all Americans (even though most of us evil DUers knew what was back there already.) What was revealed... The disaster in Iraq and the lies that got us there, Federal ineptitude in response to Katrina, The outing of Valerie Plame, Republican corruption, Executive abuse of power and the creation of the surveillance state.
At this point any person who supports Bush is anti-democracy and by extension Anti-American.
2006 has the possibility of being a fantastic year for all of us, but only if we get off our duffs and fight the inevitable battle to rid ourselves of these corporate war profiteers who are draining the treasury into their own pockets. I for one pledge to get of my ass and contribute in some way this year to make it a better year for all of us.
