Bill Schneider on CNN: "When is a leak not a leak?"
Schneider, in his wrap-up of the story, says this story causes serious political problems for the President, even if his authorization of the leak was not criminal.

He says it damages his political credibility in every possible way, mainly because he insisted to the press (Sep '03) that he would get to the bottom of "any leak" and that "any leakers" would be fired.

Schneider says "the political outlook for the President is grim." He's speaking now of the horribly low poll numbers, and says Bush can't lose anymore "honest and trustworthy" points but he imagines they will absolutely sink now.

I say the Sept 30, 2003 statement to the press was Bush's "I did not have sex with that woman" moment.

10. If Dubya had followed the excellent advice of Rosa Parks in your
signature line, politicasista, he wouldn't be in the stew he's in today.

Howdy to ya & let's get these lizards out of the White House soon!

13. They played it on an endless loop as Schneider spoke
As they all begin to wrap their heads around the fact that they've got Bush lying on tape twice now, pretending to know nothing of the identity of the leakers, any leakers, well... look out, Mr President.

I have a feeling that Bush/Cheney never counted on Libby flippin' the dime on 'em. Bush would have never made those statements... I think they counted on Libby just taking the fall.

3. Moveon.org and the Democrats better get on this one, PRONTO!
:kick:

Bush LIED about leaking. He too is a leaker, even though he said that there would be no tolerance for leakers.

5. Thanks for sharing, Bill
But if you turn up your hearing aid, and turn off the corrupt Bush administration sound filters, you may find that a large segment of the population has been raising serious questions about this administration's credibility since, oh, how about the month before it usurped power? There's a history and a pattern here; for all your high-priced on-air flummery, don't you think you should have noticed it a little before now?

Anyway, welcome to the party (at last!) Mr. Schneider.

14. The president (sic) himself said it was a criminal matter.
See Chill Wind's post #15.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=860958&mesg_id=861438

This action by Bush is a rather stunning and extraordinary development. The President of the United States is potentially hiring a private criminal defense lawyer. Unsurprisingly, the White House is doing all it can to bury the story, providing precious little detail or context for the President's action.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Bush explained his action by saying, "This is a criminal matter. It's a serious matter," but he gave no further specifics. White House officials, too, would not say exactly what prompted Bush to seek the outside advice, or whether he had been asked to appear before the grand jury.

17. Hard to damage your political credibility when you don't have any.
Note how all the MSM is making sure to point out that Bush was within the law in authorizing the release. It's as if the initial lying and misleading and denials were no big deal. Lie after lie after lie it's always no big deal. "Hey it's Bush, he's a Republican so lying is gonna happen. Get use to it, we have!'

18. You're right about that
But anytime a political scandal is brewing around this President, I'm interested, and judging from Bill Schneider's grimness, this could be a big one.
