CBS Could Have Put Amanpour In That Anchor Chair. |
|
They might have even managed to get Amy Goodman. They chose Katie Couric when they could have gotten a Journalist. There's your trouble.
Please knock it off with the accusations of Perky-Bashing just onnacount of she's a Woman. Likewise, cool it with your Free Katie threads.
This ain't about Couric. Or her credentials or her lack of same.
This is about CBS being able to get WHOEVER it pleased--and wanting Katie Couric. This is about CBS giving it up.

1. Give them the ratings they deserve. |
|
I like Bob Schieffer. I have never had the smallest desire to listen to Katie Couric's opinion on anything.

6. I so love Amy Goodman on DemocracyNow! |
|
I thought of her going to CBS and just couldn't imagine them allowing her the freedom she'd demand. For those who will watch Couric, they will get the news they deserve.

3. Katie Couric is also part of the CFR. Like Tom Brokaw |
|
She is more one of them than people want to admit.
And there is way too much talk about her legs and her "fluff" as well Viera's age (as if everyone retires at 40). And that IS all just a bunch of sexist crap.

But, replacing him with Amanpour would have just fine with me. I don't like Couric because she seems a little vapid, and despite CBS's publicity, I don't think people will view her as anything but a morning show host.

13. That CBS chose the Poster Girl For TV Fluff speaks volumes. |
|
It's a symbolism thang. The CEO at CBS is sending a clear signal to Dick (The Dick) Cheney and Poppy (My Reptile Bloodline Supported Hitler) Bush that all straying-off-the-Reservation is over, done with, gone.
Katie ("Navy SEALS rock!") Couric is a promise just the same as Noah's Rainbow: the boat will be rocked no more.

Couric is a mouthpiece, that's all.

14. It's not sexist to say Couric lacks substance |
|
I think, for example, that Lara Logan is an inspiration regarding true journalism in this day and age, and I admire the risks she takes to really cover Iraq. Couric is vapid. Comparing woman to woman, one is a news journalist, and one is an on-air (in a safe, air conditioned studio) 'personality.' It IS a shame that CBS went in that direction.
I never liked Couric, but she lost me forever when she interviewed George Clooney years ago, right after his aunt died. He was there to promote a movie, not satisfy Couric's sensationalist agenda. She was relentless in using Rosemary's name and repeatedly asked questions that George clearly did not want to answer. It was obvious she was trying to go for the emotional 'jugular' and provoke tears, a la Barbara Walters. It was a sickening display on Couric's part, and I felt so sorry for Clooney that he had to endure the totally inappropriate ordeal.

More people know who she is. She makes 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000% more sense from a journalistic standpoint than Katie Couric as well.

Maybe CBS thought it was time to put a different face on the evening news and Katie Couric is that. She's not the type you'd expect to be doing the evening news.
