Ripped off from:http://momentoftriumph.blogspot.com/2006/04/well-build-wall.html

Apparently, they thought there were already too many gringos in the region.

That turned out swell, didn't it? Trying to choke off supply while doing nothing about demand always works so well. Not only that, the inherent inefficiency of addressing only supply gives you an opportunity to look like a man, 'cause you have to kick the shit out of a lot of people to keep them away from what they demand and/or the things that are demanding them.

And if it doesn't work, well at least you got to act tough, and that's what matters!

Just a little perspective on the drama unfolding today;

1. My family was already there.
So I suppose they were "legal aliens".

Whew! now I don't have to worry about being sent....somewhere.

3. You bet! Only one slight problem..
I now live in California.

I am from around Houston, as well.

And my ancestors settled in what is now E Texas (Angelina County) in 1630.

4. Didn't we also take California away from Mexico?
Edited on Fri Apr-07-06 09:20 PM by Cleita
It looks like they are trying to take it back. I actually knew some of the descendants of the original ranching families living in Los Angeles when the Americans kicked Mexico out. One of them was my mail man. He was very upset one day because someone questioned if he should be working at a job that an American should have. I still can't get over the ignorance of some people. No one can deny that this was nothing less than racism toward Mexicans.

6. Mexico required the Anglos from the US to pledge allegiance to Mexico

and to become Catholics, when they moved to the region now known as Texas.

That worked until the Texas revolution began in the fall of 1835 with the fall of Bexar.

The Texicans were not exclusively anglo, either, as about one in seven was Spanish or Mexican.

There were some black heroes, too, not the least of whom was Greenberry Logan.

(I know some prefer Greenbury, but I like Greenberry)

And while I'm giving the brothers their due for the Texas Revolution, I would be remiss if not mentioning a hero for the taking of the Alamo in fall of 1835, Hendrick Arnold.
