I Run for Life by Melissa Etheridge. Moving breast cancer anthem! |
|
I heard this song for the first time today. It was so moving (I had tears leaking down my face) that I just had to share.
Amazon writes:
(snip) "I Run for Life," is an inspiring anthem for those who, like Etheridge, have had their lives impacted by breast cancer. (snip) (The song) was written for Ford's "Race for the Cure" project for breast cancer, and is about surviving, living with cancer, and preparing oneself to face the disease.
I Run For Life Melissa Etheridge
It's been years since they told her about it The darkness her body possessed And the scars are still there in the mirror Everyday that she gets herself dressed Though the pain is miles and miles behind her And the fear is now a docile beast If you ask her why she is still running She'll tell you it makes her complete
I run for hope I run to feel I run for the truth For all that is real I run for your mother, your sister, your wife I run for you and me, my friend I run for life
It's a blur since they told me about it How the darkness had taken its toll And they cut into my skin and they cut into my body But they will never get a piece of my soul And now I'm still learning the lesson To waken when I hear the call And if you ask me why I am still running I'll tell you I run for us all
I run for hope I run to feel I run for the truth For all that is real I run for your mother, your sister, your wife I run for you and me, my friend I run for life
And someday if they tell you about it If the darkness knocks on your door Remember her, remember me We will be running as we have before Running for answers Running for more
I run for hope I run to feel I run for the truth For all that is real I run for your mother, your sister, your wife I run for you and me, my friend I run for life

It was amusing in many ways.

3. OT: I thought I was seeing things when your "eye" blinked! |
|
Is it worth the read? I have a vocal quality similar to hers (when singing), so I always find her interesting.

4. That was Khephra's eye. |
|
I used to have the NYC flag, but when Khephra died, I adopted his eye. It is a long time between blinks, and the same thing happened to me when I first noticed the blink. I thought I was seeing things.
Other people adopted the eye when Khephra died, but they didn't get the blinking version.
Was her autobiography worth reading? Yes and no. I don't think you should spend money on it. Get it from the library. It isn't my type of music, so that influenced my degree of interest in it.
Overall, she seems to be a nice person. The thing I found most memorable was that she complained about a series of girlfriends who were unable to commit. Then, when she got a girlfriend who was willing to commit, she was not. That just made me laugh, and stuck with me.

7. Yes. I was rather new at the time, but I do remember Khephra. |
|
But I didn't realize the eye blinked.

I really like her.
She has showed so much grace and class throughout her awful ordeal.

I just wish she could find a better fundraiser to support. Ford Run for the Cure? Doesn't Ford make vehicles that release carcinogens into the air?
I guess I have a problem with major corporations that make products that produce carcinogens jumping on the "let's raise money for a breast cancer cure" bandwagon. It's a way to make themselves look good while at the same time, possibly contributing to the underlying problem.
Then again, if Ford products can cause more cancer, thus increasing the need for a "cure," then I guess you could call that corporate synergy, of a kind.

6. Reframe: why are "bake sales" necessary to raise money for |
|
cancer research? Why isn't the government fully funding research for diseases?
