Iran Could Produce Nuclear Bomb in 16 Days, U.S. Says (Update2) |
|
A fine peice of propaganda and hysteria from Bloomberg Germany?. Un-named U.S. officials..??? This is going straight to FOX news no doubt. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000100&sid=aduNTcpDuDd4&refer=germany Iran Could Produce Nuclear Bomb in 16 Days, U.S. Says (Update2)
April 12 (Bloomberg) -- Iran, defying United Nations Security Council demands to halt its nuclear program, may be capable of making a nuclear bomb within 16 days, a U.S. State Department official said.
Iran will move to "industrial scale'' uranium enrichment involving 54,000 centrifuges at its Natanz plant, the Associated Press quoted deputy nuclear chief Mohammad Saeedi as telling state-run television today.
"Using those 50,000 centrifuges they could produce enough highly enriched uranium for a nuclear weapon in 16 days,'' Stephen Rademaker, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation, told reporters today in Moscow. (more at link)

3. 16 days...AFTER 10 years. Iraq can launch "wmd" in 45 minutes!!! |
|
Iraq hasn't had any "wmd" to launch in 45 minutes since 1991 but better to invade & slaughter a lot of innocent men, women & children anyways!
Likewise Iran! Why wait a decade to slaughter when you can slaughter now! RAH! RAH! RAH! USA! USA!

small centrifuges! Where the hell do these assholes think they got "54,000"? It is interesting, because that "50,000" number is the exact number that has been reported as necessary for bomb production. "How many do they need? Well that's how many they have!!" Bullshit!

11. They just need another 53,850 centrifuges, then watch out! |
|
This is just such hysterical bullshit, it would be almost funny if the very real consequences, in terms of wasted lives and wasted Treasury dollars, wasn't such a buzzkill.

15. Bad reporting in this article... |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-13-06 09:15 AM by SidDithers
It makes it seem like the Iranians already have 54,000 centrifuges ready to go. But later in the article, it says:
Iran has informed the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency that it plans to construct 3,000 centrifuges at Natanz next year, Rademaker said.
So, next year, they're going to increase from 164 to 3,000 centrifuges. Well, they'll still be 51,000 centrifuges short of the 54,000 needed to produce enough highly enriched uranium for a bomb in 16 days.

16. Also in the article... |
|
"Rademaker said the technology to enrich uranium to a low level could also be used to make weapons-grade uranium, saying that it would take a little over 13 years to produce enough highly enriched uranium for a nuclear weapon with the 164 centrifuges currently in use."
Someone should write an article saying that
"Stephen Rademaker, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation is a blithering idiot, and should not be allowed to hold any position requiring the use sharp objects"

18. The article itself says in a year they can build 3000 centrifuges... |
|
But they only have 164 right now. With 3000 cascading centrifuges, they'll be able to make weapons grade uranium in 271 days, according to the article (that's 9 months). So put it at two years away. It's not 16 days--that's another Bush administration lie. But don't believe the 10 years estimate, either. Iran, despite their supposed sharia-law-based objections to using nukes, have every reason in the world to actively pursue a weapons program and no logical reason not to. Don't expect Iran's Council of Experts to sit around quietly while Cheney and Bush drop hints that they plan to genocide their country.
