direct video link - http://www.booktv.org/ram/feature/0106/btv012806_4.ram

Gary Berntsen, former CIA field commander, talks about his effort to catch Osama bin Laden during the recent war in Afghanistan. In "Jawbreaker," the book he co-authored with Ralph Pezullo, he explains that insufficient responses from the administration led to the escape of Osama bin Laden. Mr. Berntsen also details his hunts for the al Qaeda leader, including missions that occurred 15 months before the September 11th terrorist attacks. During the presentation, Mr. Berntsen and Ralph Pezullo urge bi-partisan cooperation in order to defeat global terrorism. This event was hosted by Dutton's Beverly Hills Books in California.

43. Well, that was something of a dog and pony show.
His bi-partisan call sounds similar to Bush's "uniter" talk.

He seems to want bi-partisan agreement to continue on in a decades-long war. Feh! No word of how Iraq was irrelevant to any imagined "war on terrorism". He's an apologist. The whole little event itself was a wee bit of psy-ops. It's even up on the internet for all to enjoy.

Gary claims that operations were weakened in the 90's (you know what he means--Clinton's ubiquitous pecker.) when he claims Arabic speaking agents were not increased. Commander Gary then goes on to lie about how Bush increased Arab speakers in 2000.

The reality is the administration not only ignored the importance of having Arab speakers involved in intelligence, they actually fired at least seven for...are ya ready? Can you guess? That's right, for being GAY!
http://www.gaymilitary.ucsb.edu/PressClips/02_1118_NewRepublic.htm

The audience might have had at least one plant (nodding his head at every morsel of pro-admin spin, and talking down a suggestion by an audience member that the US itself is responsible for creating some terrorists by way of its own policies and actions.) It's interesting to note that while most question-askers were inaudible or had interference from the sound system, two "choir-members" were heard with bell-like clarity as they crawled up the Bush administration's bum by way of solicitous soliloquy. Of course, it could all be a coincidence.

If you think I'm kidding, or a wee too paranoid--well--maybe I am, check it out for yourself. One fun plus is that you'll see a character in Gary who is a mimic's dream. :-)

A very oddball character, with distinctive, quirky mannerisms.

Maybe he sincerely doesn't know he's working for the "bad guys". WTF do I know? :-)

4. Articles of Impeachment Against George W. Bush
On Saturday, April 15 at 12:00 pm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Articles of Impeachment Against George W. Bush
Michael Ratner, Bill Goodman, Maria Lahud, and Shayana Kadidal

Center for Constitutional Rights attorneys Michael Ratner, Bill Goodman, Maria Lahud, and Shayana Kadidal talk about their book, "Articles of Impeachments," at the Culture Project in New York City. The participants argue that President Bush should be impeached because he is abusing his power. They discuss the NSA domestic spying case, the administration's arguments supporting the invasion of Iraq, and the administration's use of indefinite detention and torture to support their case. The panel is moderated by Democracy Now! host Amy Goodman.

The Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR) is a New York based legal organization founded in 1966. Lawyers from CCR represented Guantanamo Bay detainees in the Supreme Court case Rasul v. Bush. The case challenged the Bush administration's power to indefinitely detain foreign nationals in Guantanamo without trial and argued that detainees should be allowed to contest their imprisonment in U.S. courts. The Supreme Court ruled in CCR's favor. For more information on the book or the Center for Constitutional Rights, visit www.ccr-ny.org.

Donkey Cons: Sex, Crime and Corruption in the Democratic Party
Robert Stacy McCain

Author Robert Stacy McCain details what he describes as the criminal activities of what he considers to be today's most "famous and infamous liberals" in his new book he co-authored with Lynn Vincent, "Donkey Cons." Mr. McCain argues that the Democratic party is to blame for bribery, kickbacks, espionage, terrorism, and voter fraud in Congress. The author also claims that corrupt Democrats in Congress, measured by those who have been sanctioned for ethical reasons, outnumber corrupt Republicans by as much as three to one. The program was hosted by the Young America's Foundation.

Robert Stacy McCain is an assistant national editor for the Washington Times. He won the George Washington Medal from the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge for his series of columns on the National Standards for U.S. History.

44. He's incapable of an interesting presentation.
It's as if he's talking to 10 year-olds. He's doing a hard sell, his book reads like "a Steven King novel"--Riiiight--He's reading a lot of self-serving quotes about the book.

A sample of his writing: "His hazel eyes sparkled like diamonds."
"One storm-soaked February..." I wonder what the book would be like if he didn't have someone helping him?

Wow! He used to be a Democrat, he used to "love the party" ever so deeply. :eyes:

He's talking about Aaron Burr and Chappaquiddick fer cry-eye. At least enter this century, dude!

I can listen to no more, considering the actual crisis in this nation. He is really creepy and slimy. Really.

6. Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq
On Saturday, April 15 at 2:45 pm
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Overthrow: America's Century of Regime Change from Hawaii to Iraq
Stephen Kinzer

Stephen Kinzer discusses the U.S.'s long history of regime change, the subject of his new book, "Overthrow." Mr. Kinzer argues that the U.S. invasion of Iraq has historical roots going back to the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy in 1893 and says that while the policy of direct military involvement to achieve regime change was put on hold during the Cold War, it has been reestablished since the fall of the Soviet Union. Mr. Kinzer talks about several of the fourteen episodes of regime change he discusses in his book, including America's involvement in Cuba, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Iran. He answers questions form the audience following his remarks.

Stephen Kinzer, a longtime foreign correspondent for the New York Times, has been the Times bureau chief in Turkey, Germany, and Nicaragua. He is the author of several books, including "All the Shah’s Men: An American Coup and the Roots of Middle East Terror" and "Bitter Fruit: The Untold Story of the American Coup in Guatemala" (co-authored with Stephen Schlesinger).

47. The NYT has a book review up on this today
exerpt:

What's most depressing about Kinzer's book, however, is not the drastic clash it describes between professed American morality and actual American behavior. For, after all, the historical record of other democratic imperial powers, like Britain and France, has been even worse than that of the United States. Operating in the real world as a great power is not a business for the overly fastidious.

But if you are going to use the argument that making a successful geopolitical omelet requires breaking eggs, you'd better have something edible to show for all the shattered shells lying around. As Kinzer makes clear, the problem is that all too many of the interventions he recounts were not just utterly ruthless; they were utterly unnecessary.

It should have been obvious that the damage to the countries concerned was likely to be out of all proportion to the possible gains to the United States. But during the cold war, ignorant and ideological official cliques in Washington repeatedly convinced themselves that "you are with us or you are against us," and that a range of nationalist governments around the world, anti-American to a greater or lesser degree, were part of the Soviet global conspiracy and had to be destroyed.

In several cases, while the coups themselves were highly successful, the long-term results proved disastrous — not just for America's reputation abroad but for American interests as well.

Neal Boortz and Michael Graetz

Radio talk show host Neal Boortz, co-author of "The Fair Tax Book," debates Michael Graetz, professor of law at Yale University Law School and author of "The Decline (and Fall?) of the Income Tax," on the value of replacing the current federal tax system with the Fair Tax system. The Fair Tax is a proposal for all federal taxes to be replaced by a national consumption tax. The authors argue over the revenue generating potential of the Fair Tax and the exact rate at which citizens would have to be taxed to meet current government spending levels. The debate is moderated by Harvey Shapiro, contributing editor at Institutional Investor magazine.

Neal Boortz is the host of the Neal Boortz Radio Show. Mr. Boortz, the author of "The Terrible Truth About Liberals," has been a talk show host since 1969 and operates out of Atlanta (www.boortz.com). The Cuban Revolution: Years of Promise
Teo Babun
Direct video link - http://www.booktv.org/ram/history/0306/btv031906_1.ram

Description: Teo Babun discusses the photographs of the Cuban Revolution collected by his father. The photographs, published in his new book, cover the uprising against, and the eventual overthrow of, the Batista government in the late 1950s. During the talk, Mr. Babun talks about how his father began working with Fidel Castro and argues that there is a wide gap between the official history of the revolution as described in Cuban history books and the story of what really happened. He says that Fidel Castro went back on his promise to create a democracy after the revolution and it is this betrayal that drives most anti-Castro forces within Cuba and the United States. Books & Books in Coral Gables, Florida hosted the talk. Includes slide show and Q&A.

Author Bio: Teo Babun is managing partner of the Cuba-Caribbean Development Division of Babun Group Consulting (www.babungroup.com). He is the author of "Dealing With Your Personal Crisis: A formula for Healing" and "The Business Guide to Cuba."

Painting the Map Red: The Fight to Create a Permanent Republican Majority
Hugh Hewitt

Hugh Hewitt argues that Democrats could win back both the House and Senate during the 2006 mid-term elections and suggests ways for Republicans to limit this possibility. He says that for Republicans to regain the momentum they have lost recently, they should concentrate on four things: winning the war, confirming their judicial nominees, cutting taxes, and controlling spending. Weekly Standard executive editor Fred Barnes and Democratic strategist Bob Beckel provide commentary. The event was hosted by the Heritage Foundation in Washington, DC.

Hugh Hewitt's radio show can be heard in 70 cities around the country. He also teaches constitutional law at Chapman University Law School in Orange, California. Professor Hewitt's books include "Blog: Understanding the Information Reformation That's Changing Your World" and "If It's Not Close, They Can't Cheat: Crushing the Democrats in Every Election and Why Your Life Depends on It."
