I'm serious about that subject line. I'm quite surprised the fascists haven't found a way to shut us down at least on a sporadic basis. Ooops...power went out again. Oops...theft. Skinner has a helluva job on his hands as well as his crew. God bless DU and Skinner et al.

1. I used to think that was true, but things have progressed to the point
that we're the least of their problems.

But I certainly feel that we helped make it happen!

4. the 'regime' is like a kid who attacked an apiary
the bees maybe fat and generally peaceful critters more interested in flowers and dancing but there's a whole lot of them, and they do sting, though that cost them their life....the gopigs are cowardly fukkers who are madly swinging at everything, they are soft weak nasties who are only dangerous because the newsmedia is anxiously yelling 'tom fukked nicole, people! lookee lookee over heah!' etc. That trick only works under certain circumstances, and 2500 dead troopers, plus the (still to emerge) economic disaster of bushevikism have alerted too many hard men, the type who shuttup goofs like norm coleman or rudy guliani with an icy stare, are wise to it!
Caution is wise, but please lets not overestimate the gopigs...they are the terrified ones in this mix. DU represents real power, and it's like the apiary before the fool kid starts thumping the hives with his stick....

7. If it wakes one person up, to that one person it is the universe.

or perhaps closer to the point I'm failing to make, it is the difference between a real universe and being imprisoned in a fake one. I don't think it's possible to OVERESTIMATE how important that is.

9. I agree that it is an important site.
But is it really making a differance when the true count of posters is closer to 1000 rather then the 80,000 that is claimed?

I am not out to be flamed but the site claims every single person who ever signed up. I just think it is overstating if all memebers ever are claimed.

This is only to make you concious of OVERSTATEMENT.

I love DU but I hate that some think they are world changers.

10. last week I received an unexpected phone call
I was on DU and made a few posts bitching about the government. As I am online, the phone rang, I looked at the caller ID to see who it was. The call was from the United States Government, I decided to let it go to the answering machine, but the caller hung up.

I thought about it a little more, and figured it was a recruiter after my 18 year old son.

12. I have a buddy who is the Air Force
And he likes to mess with people's minds like that because when he calls, the Caller ID says, "US Government."

13. ROFLMAO!
Major threat?

Yeah, 80,000 pissed off ultra-liberals who can't manage to agree on anything other than the fact that Bush is a terrible person and president. It's a wonder they can sleep at night with this major threat hanging over their heads for 5 plus years.

DU is great, but let's not over do it. :)

15. DU is several thousand unpaid reporters -- that's its importance
DU, DailyKos, the liberal blogs -- we're like thousands of free lance reporters catching up the administration on its lies. Gannongate, the debate bulge and some 9/11 material has been disclosed on blogs and boards first.

Parts of the media read DU -- especially some Air America hosts -- from where info gets catapulted sometimes into the mainstream media.

It is not so much first hand reporting as it is cross checking various administration and media claims against each other. That is really its importance, not that 1000 liberals clicking away at keyboards is really a threat to stability.

16. The 9/11 forum is reason alone ..
for the government to keep DU going strong. Being able to paint liberals as out of touch "moonbats" is part of their plan to deflect questioning of their real crimes. The ability for some DU'rs to accept any 911 conspiracy as long as it has a sufficient amount of hatred towards Bush is a gift to the BFEE that keeps on giving.

Except I would substitute "conservatives" for "government", because it's hard to talk about the government having an agenda unless there was a true one-party system (which I would actually present as evidence against MIHOP).

I like to post this thing about common features of conspiracy theories:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conspiracy_theories#Features

I would actually say that the state forums, where people post real-life, actual political functions that people can participate in and make a difference in electoral politics (rather than just complaining), as the most threatening to Bush* and the Republicans on this board, as well as Campaign Underground.

21. as long as it keeps them up at nite
conspiring to come up with a new 'conspiracy' to combat the 'moonbats'

instead of actually doing something constructive, then i'd say our work is done.

government, after all, has never been their strong point ...
