DC's WTTG Channel 5 to Become More Fox-like
Edited on Fri Apr-14-06 10:59 PM by mahatmakanejeeves
I like Channel 5. I've always liked it, because back when I was a kid, other stations, the ones that were part of networks, would show stuff you weren't interested in during prime time, but you could always count on Channel 5 to put on something like "Mothra Versus Godzilla."

Hey, a Wikipedia entry for WTTG.

Channel 5 started out as part of the DuMont Television Network. Then it became part of Metromedia, owned by John Kluge. He sold it to Fox. I still think of it as an independent, and aside from showing all the Fox network programming, it doesn't seem like a Fox station. All that is about to change.

Fox News Channel 5 - 4/13 - DCRTV has told you that Fox plans to make its local TV news operations more like its Fox News Channel. Now, TVNewser tells us that the assimilation has begun, now that Fox News head Roger Ailes, a longtime Republican Party promoter, is also in charge of Rupert Murdoch's TV stations. Fox's NYC station has just undergone a major rebranding, with a logo (left) that's derivative of the Fox News Channel logo. And a new slogan, "The Most Powerful Name In Local News," which mirrors the Fox News slogan. The changes are planned for all Fox-owned TV stations, including DC's Fox 5, WTTG. Stay tuned.....

This text will drop farther and farther down the page at the DC Radio TV website as time goes by.

Say what you will about Wikipedia, but I doubt the Encyclopedia Brittanica has entries for WTTG or the DuMont Television Network.

1. Channel 5 was great.
I grew up just outside Baltimore, and it usually came in clear enough. It--and a couple of UHF stations--were staples.

(Although one day I learned what 'skip' was and WTTG suddenly became KCMO for a while ... and I learned that radio/tv stations west of the Mississippi have call letters starting with 'K'.)
