1. The girls are not the problem - the media is the problem
I wish people would find a different phrase or tagline to articulate the frustration about selective and tabloid media coverage. As the parent of a 10 year old girl, my heart breaks for this family, this child. The horror is unimaginable.

5. These innocent victims
are once again victimized by sensationalistic news media-there is a section in Brownmiller's , "Against Our Will" about how rape/murder victims have, for decades, been sensationalized to boost readers-always called, "attractive", "blonde", "swinging", whatever-the NY POST has been well known for doing this for a long time.

It is no more the victims' fault that they were brutally raped or murdered than it would be any other innocent person's fault they were robbed, or bombed, for that matter.

8. Like Kimberly Ernest in Philly
What a scandal that was.

Kim was a very attractive white gal of 26. She had been grabbed, abused, raped, and then murdered.

And then the full autopsy report was leaked by the town's tabloid paper and its FOX affiliate: In addition to semen found in her vagina from the rape, there was "fluid" in her rectum that was "consistent with semen" from a "possible" sex encounter 12-72 hours before her death.

The media went into overdrive. Every single goddamned article about the case thereafter centered on Kimberly's rectum and its mystery fluid. The police combed the city looking for men who had "dated" the late Ms. Ernest. A top-secret list of sex partners was rumored to exist. The police finally caught two perps who were tried and convicted in the press, then turned out to be non-perps.

I'm seldom moved to disgust by news stories, but this one did it for me.

But don't take my word for it; Amy Wang from the American Journalism Review wrote about it, too: http://www.ajr.org/Article.asp?id=891 The article is, of course, sanitized and is a piece of "serious journalism", but it fails to capture the circus-like atmosphere that prevailed in the press.

--p!
Rest in peace, Ms. Ernest.

9. Disgusting.
I'd not heard of this case. Is this the same Bernie Siegel who represented Jeffrey MacDonald in the "Fatal Vision" case?

Thank you for posting this.

6. i don't have cable, so never heard of this
the pigmedia goes oink-that's the problem. With the US government a biker gang run by the Filthy Few, the media needs to report news, and regardless, some tragedy involving some child isn't top story, Bush is. And the pigmedia knows it, so they protect bush using lil white girl's missing toothbrush, or panties in a knot etc.....

7. The issue as you well know is not one of the child's skin color...........
.....the issue is that because of some horrid creature than claims to be human:wtf: we've lost another child. We've lost another one of tomorrow's leaders. Her parents - regardless of color - are no doubt devastated. But you :spank: know all that already or you wouldn't have posted something like this.:wtf:
