Jesus Returns 06-06-06. Look Religious.

Jesus gets ready for return in spaceship

There are only 50 shopping days left until the return of Jesus, if you believe this billboard, which reportedly is hanging in Jersey near the Holland Tunnel.

9. I wouldn't be surprised
I'm sure there are a lot of poor, ignorant people who would do just that.

Bush and his cronies better start practicing passing through the eye of a needle.

On that day, the pinkboys will dread the arrival of the Two-Fisted Battlin' Jesus and ALL his alien minions!

Frop for everyone! Slack for the masses!

6. "Theocons" "Theocrats" = Labels that evoke the repugnant. . .

. . .nature of what we are contending with by connecting "theocracy" with the horrible consequences of permitting the neocon empire builders to infiltrate and dominate our government. ("Beware of false prophets. . . By their fruits you will know them." Matthew 7:15-20)

Rev. Neuhaus often misses the mark, but I loved it when he used the terms "theocon" and "theocrat" on Meet the Press this week.

Haven't come across the terms before, but they are terms we should be using. They convey a core truth about the reactionary-christianist-right. Whether monarchy, theocracy, or military dictatorship, it's all fascism -- the belief that a faction has the right to absolute rule.

11. where to start?
Estimate when Jesus was born, and pick an arbitrary starting point for year zero. Start your year with an arbitrary date called January 1. Then use a base ten numbering system, not base twenty like the Mayas or base sixty like the Babylonians or base two or base anything else. Number your days, months, and years according to these arbitrary choices. So you have a bunch of arbitrary, human selected figures and then you try to ascribe some sort of divine interpretation to 06/06/06? Looks like No Child Left Behind is "working" as designed.

Greg dangles a spaceship model outside Marcia, Jan and Cindy's bedroom window while Peter makes noises with a slide whistle.

Wait, no, Jesus wasn't in that episode.

23. "Look religious"
Yes, that would fool him.

If the Christ was to return, if there was a Jesus who was the Christ, let's all plan to pass inspection by having the right surface appearance. Sure, that's how we'd be judged. How often do we go to church or say that "Jesus is my savior". Surely that's gonna get us on his good side.

Because God knows God wouldn't see into our hearts. Why would God care about silly things like if we followed what Jesus taught about "Love one another" and "Judge not" and "Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, therefor you've done unto me".
Loving, accepting, helping one another must not be the way to the kingdom because God knows that ain't religious.
And of course God would care about religion. That's why Jesus said "When ever two or three of you are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of you" Two or three gathered obviously means REALLY big churches.
And Loving one another means loving people the church approves of.
And not judging means knowing people in the "wrong" religion or who are gay or whatever we don't approve of will go to hell.

If there is an afterlife I think the current crop of "religious" people who brag and judge are going to be among the most surprised. Atheists will be surprised but they will like it. The Falwell/Robertson/bushite crowd won't like it a bit.

I guess that means we won't be seeing pics of you holding vigil, lighting candles and laying flowers at the base of the billboard? ;)

:hi: and welcome to DU, originalpckelly. I'd love to stay and chat, but I'm in the middle of a bid war for a 23 year-old pocket protector bearing an ink-stained image of the patron saint of fools.
