Bush's plan?

We know he's implimenting a triage mentality to determine who gets vaccines first; (The health community will go first) and we know he's ready to reactivate retired federal employees in order to hold down insurrection.

What else are we doing for precautions? What should a Democratic candidate run on that would earn him votes? For example, I have heard that they are thinking of keeping commercial poultry or range chickens from marsh lands.

1. There was an article in the Nation that said just a few million $$ to Asia
To study it at its source would be the most effective way to control any pandemic. But, that probably doesn't put money in any pharma company's pockets.

...that one day we will live in a world which values human life more than the value of stock profits.

3. Sambucol has been shown in labs be 99% effective against H5N1
Edited on Mon Apr-17-06 07:39 PM by Sinti
Maybe they should look into that. Maybe we should all grab a bottle (or just straight Elderberry extract) at the natural foods store just in case ;)

Link to an article regarding the same:

They are expecting an insurrection and will have the National Guard put it down. This idea really disturbs me somehow, makes my skin crawl funny. :scared:

12. Good point.. details
i scanned the article.. so far, just done in lab dish, not yet in humans, so it is not yet "ready to go and fully proven."

still, a good lead and very worth looking into. Thanks, sinti.

4. Effective Quarantining of City Areas
planning already in place

vaccination sites pre planned

more money for respirators or ventilators

spend a month's worth of Iraq money and we'd be kicking some ass against bird flu

14. I'm Really Sorry About The Multiple Posting
have DSL and I lose my signal occasionally for some reason, and I hit the post several times when it wasn't responding (I didn't think)

so now it is too late to edit the post so I have 4 identical posts.

16. Flu is a virus.
Antibacterial stuff won't do a thing.

Soap and hot water washes it all away, though.

17.  A serious list of
things individual families can do to prepare is needed. New Zealand has a preparadness guide on the inside page of it's phonebook I have read,...because in the end if people don't have the basics available at home they will be in trouble. Also a good plan for restocking food in supermarkets and the means to truck supplies in to areas that need them as well as for distribution.

A guide for laypeople to care for family members at home as hospitals will be swamped within a week and will not be the place you want to be in a pandemic.
Dr Woodson has one here http://www.fluwikie.com/uploads/Consequences/NewGuideOct7b.pdf

http://www.fluwikie.com/pmwiki.php?n=Consequences.Consequences
has lots of info for preparadness.
In the past week the authorities in this country have toned down their assessments in public. I think it is because they know it will be here in birds in the next few months and they are going into reassurance mode. There needs to be a good balance so that people will be inspired to prepare but not be freaked out. They are instead seesawing all over the place.

It makes good sense to be prepared for emergencies in general. I prepared for a hurricane every year for years and never needed it till be were hit by three in six weeks. I was ready.
