Gore & Edwards......don't know...
Edited on Mon Apr-17-06 07:31 PM by KoKo01
Maybe. If Gore had picked Edwards instead of Lieberman he might have come on stronger in the South...at that time. Lieberman didn't help Gore and some of us now think he worked behind the scenes against him, particularly during the Florida recount.

Edwards problem is that many of us think he was running for President from the time he was elected Senator from NC. He tended to vote very DLC and wasn't responsive to his constituents who worked hard for him. (at least the "little folks" who worked hard for him.) His obstinance about Iraq was a huge disappointment to those of us who begged him not to vote for the Iraq War resolution and his treatment of us after no WMD were found was not good either. He shouldn't have given up his seat to allow Erskine Bowles to run and lose a second time, thereby setting NC up for two hard core Repug Senators, Dole and Burr (a DeLay type). Lieberman didn't give up his seat when he ran. And, he didn't help us here with Verified Paper Ballot Voting issues here in NC when we were desperate for some backing.

The one thing I do like about him is his stand on abolishing pharmaceutical advertisements on TV. And, his "two Americas" is a basis for some populist ideas that some of us support. I've always seen him as a total opportunist in spite of how well liked he is here by many DU'ers, but perhaps his loss of the Vice Presidency, losing his NC seat to a Right Wing Repug has allowed some "humility" to creep in and he's learned to stand taller. I think his wife "gets it" and she
is his biggist asset.

But, I don't know if Gore and Edwards even get along...or have the same philosophy. Some have said Edwards was Gore's first pick but others convinced him to chose Lieberman.

Maybe....

2. Yes, he was...
...remember the SNL skit? Kerry, Lieberman and Edwards were the three top names on Gore's list. Edwards didn't have enough experience, Kerry had too much, and Lieberman was strongly supported by the DLC and they thought he'd help with the "value voters". He did help with them, helped them go to Bush...

3. I have a feeling Senator Edwards would like the top job and the two
may find themselves competing for it.

It's going to get interesting.

5. I think either would be very good, and hope they will continue to
play huge roles in the party until their last breaths on earth.

Two great people.

9. Hi to you, Olney blue. I'm bouncing off the good energy of Gore, Edwards,
and all the other excellent Democrats we have in the line-up.

The GOP has sell-out McCain, cement-head Allen, THE CAT BUTCHER Frist, gravy-brain Barbour, psycho Sam Brownback, and so on. We'll mow 'em down.

The bluer the better.

11. Gore inspires me.
And your list of GOP candidates looks like the line-up in The Usual Suspects, my favorite movie!

6. What's the point of this post? Bash Edwards?
Edwards is not an opportunist... he lost a son, and if you've ever lost anyone dear to you (god forbid, a child) you'll realize how that gives you a perspective on the fact that life is short.

And, Edwards is also one of the most "humble" politicians around (how many others admit to a wrong vote saying that their "judgment was wrong")... if you can't see that in him, you never will. Edwards' biggest asset is he himself - people like him, face it. You don't and that is totally fine, but he is a hit even among mainstream republicans, not to mention the independents.

As for voting "DLC"... how did he get that 4th most liberal rating then? I've seen his votes, they are clearly center-left - he can't vote the same way a mass. or NY senator does because, well, NC is a red state in case you forgot.

8. On Edwards. Just one person's viewpoint here, but I believe he is
as you you say - one of the most humble candidates around.

The competition for the Democratic nomination will be fierce. Every time a new poll finds Bush lagging farther and farther behind, the chances of an 08 Democratic White House improve.

When I hear Pretzelhead give an address or a press conference, I can't help but think that I'd be a lot prouder to be an American citizen if John and Elizabeth Edwards were in the White House instead.

Or John Kerry and Tereza Heinz Kerry.

Or just about anybody we got compared to just about anybody they got.

If Edwards or Gore are our nominees, they have definitely got my vote, and it will be a fiercely loyal vote, too. I love 'em both.

10. Just want to say, I LOVE those little blue box emoticons. Just love 'em.
I could play with them all night, fill whole pages full of them. They remind me of a blue landslide in November 06 and a Democratic White House in 08. I love those little blue boxes. I just love 'em to death.

Love 'em, love 'em, love 'em.
