Six Fire Trucks Called To Save Dog (dogs don't pay taxes though...)
Six Fire Trucks Called To Save Dog

POSTED: 2:11 pm EDT April 17, 2006

EDMONTON, Alberta -- Firefighters rescued a shivering dog from a Canadian river after it was spotted clinging to an ice shelf.

Buddy, a Rottweiler-shepherd cross, had escaped from an Edmonton backyard early Sunday morning. While his owners searched the neighborhood, a passer-by spotted him in the icy water, 10 feet from the shore of the North Saskatchewan River.

Six fire trucks from three stations were dispatched to the river and four firefighters in a rescue boat eventually reached Buddy, pulled him from the river and wrapped him in a blanket.

So here we have this story. The dog does not pay taxes, hell he might be here illegally for all we know. And yet, we are glad the dog was rescued.

Now I know this is not a perfect fit for an analogy of things (from immigrants to all of us, etc and so on) but it does seem telling in some ways.

Compassion for the afflicted - and work out the details later on how to fix things the way they should be. Not perfect, but human.

2. Hear Fucking Hear!!!!!
I'll tell ya what, I think it was a brilliantly simplistic analogy.

Well done!

3. Does Canada have a immigration problem also?
If so, I have not heard about it. Of course we love our animals more than we love our humans!

4. They got problems with dogs invading it seems :)
We have done the same here in US, sending off divers, trucks, et al to save animals in need of rescue.

I do have a few cats though I would like to send up north though, hear the borders there are porous :)

6. The firefighters missed a couple of games of eight ball>>>>>>>>
and got in some real time rescue practice to save a pooch.
Not a bad trade I figure.

7. But..but..but
The doggie can't work and care for itself, it's just completely helpless and dependent on humans.

That is what I hear every time I mention our local animal shelter has about ten times the budget of our local food bank. I'm glad people take care of animals, but you'd think they'd have at least that amount of compassion for humans.

Your analogy is spot on.

10. Humans aren't as cute it seems
We don't mind helping furry little creatures, but see a bum on the street and pass em by. Maybe it is because we are ashamed of ourselves so we avoid it.

8. Another reason to love Canada. FEMA would have shot the dog.

Maybe Buddy and Molly should get a TV show together?
