Michael Douglas to support Kucinich reelection (attending Cleveland event)

CLEVELAND, (April 18) - - Academy Award Winning Actor Michael Douglas will travel to Cleveland on Sunday, April 23, to support the reelection bid of U.S. Representative Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH).

"As a United Nations Messenger of Peace, I am pleased to come to Cleveland to strongly support Dennis Kucinich's efforts for world peace. He and I share many of the same concerns about what concrete steps must be taken to make this a more peaceful world, beginning with the urgent need for nuclear non-proliferation. Long before others Dennis warned America not to go to war against Iraq. He is now trying to head off a war with Iran. He is an important leader for peace and a true visionary. He deserves support and I am proud to be in Cleveland to provide it," said Douglas.

Two weeks ago, Douglas was at the UN to honor Kofi Annan's efforts to ban landmines. Douglas works internationally for the control of small arms.

Kucinich led the effort in the House of Representatives in challenging the Administration's march toward war in Iraq. He organized 125 Democrats in voting against the war. An analysis he did in October of 2002 of the Administration's claims regarding Iraq proved prescient as he was the first member of Congress to categorically debunk the case for war. He later was instrumental in forming a bipartisan coalition supporting legislation, House Joint Resolution 55, to withdraw US troops from Iraq.-snip-

:bounce:

Btw, in other Kooch-related news, he's got a primary challenger, Barbara Anne Ferris, whose website contains nothing about Iraq or any of the things we love Kucinich for, lets hope he mops the floor with her electorally:

1. I don't know Ms. Ferris, but I love Dennis Kucinich.
I was an Ohioan once, when Kucinich was Cleveland's mayor.

Michael Douglas makes some pretty good films and I believe I like his politics, too.

7. I see she's endorsed by Ferris Steak House!
LOL

I used to have dinner there every now and then when I lived in Cleveland.

But, what's up with those other endorsements?

Dennis is the man.

15. I never tried the Ferris restaurant. But I'm not sure why they feel
the need to challenge Kucinich. He seems pretty well-liked in that district.

I'm thinking he wins this primary by a handsome percentage.

14. These Rethugs-for-Ferris folks better not mess with Michael Douglas.
If he's half as tough as some of the characters he's played in film, their ass is grass.

___

I expect the GOP to try almost anything to unseat Dennis Kucinich, who fights for the best of all possible circumstances for citizenship, as opposed to the Republicans who are setting the Constitution ablaze even as we speak.

Go, Dennis.

19. This whole thing smells bad.
If they take a Democratic Primary ballot, they won't be able to vote in the Petro-Blackwell primary.

2. Kucinich is "the bomb"
His office is right down the street from me. He's such a wierd little man, but he's passionate about his politics and happens to be correct with them.

This ought to be a landslide, I haven't even noticed any Ferris signs in Cleveland.

9. I have never had the pleasure
but I have always thought he was quite charming although I do like "weird" so maybe that is it. I find him very normal.

11. He can be very passionate in a way that almost comes across silly
When I've met him, he's very personable but seems very quirky. He's kind of like the kid that always got picked last to be on the team because he's just so unusual. Certainly charming, though, I'd rather he stay off the beaten path

10. I don't think you
meant to disparage Dennis, but the "such a wierd little man" descriptor is not really fair to Dennis. Just my $.02 from a fellow Clevelander. I have met him several times and other than being short of stature, he has the heart of a lion.

3. Get out!!
Michael Douglas? I had no idea!

Love Dennis, I need to send a small check to him and I have not yet. Gotta love DK. I would walk through fire for him if he needed it. Goodness knows he is walking through it for us.

22. Thanks! I had my films messed up.

It was Mr NRA Heston who played Moses, wasn't it? Now it would be really ironic if a son of HIS endorsed Dennis.

Thanks for setting me straight.

18. Absolutely no other candidate is as close to "perfect" in his record
... as Dennis. I'd walk miles and work long hours to see him on the winning ticket. He's diligent and indefatiguable - without peer. He's the ideal "Anti-Bush."

20. Even though I don't support much of Rep Kucinich's
positions, I do like the fact, he is for scrapping the Patriot Act. I would support him for this alone.

21. I got to see Kucinich speak at UF
he's an amazing and brilliant man.

However, I don't think being weird is a bad thing. We're all weird when you look close enough. Heck, in a HS spelling bee, the teacher asked me to spell the word 'weird' and the whole class bust out laughing. I've worn the label proudly ever since.
